Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

Was the ARH still burning?

Trust me, magic 2s don’t lock at their max in range game. Not more than the AIM9M.

From the Jag IS felt like a lot further away

Not really any advantage lock range from my familiarity with both. Generally seems within spitting distance of each other. Unless you’re launching at something particularly odd.

Though from my understanding sitting in a few threads, seems both are pretty mediocre compared to where it ought to be.

I’ve used AIM-9L/M, Magic II, Python 3, R-73 and R-60M, the only missile that locks from any different range is R-60M, because of the pitiful seeker. They’re basically all copypastas right now, barring IRCCM differences. The biggest thing that will change lock distance anyway is if you’re looking at a plane that is ridiculously hot (tomcat or F-111) or one that is hilariously cold (F-5).

I know all that…

I will have to get a clip, but R-73 using the mig21bison in test flight instantly locked when I entered range according to the radar. Aim-9M against the same target and in roughly the same aspect, didn’t lock until minimum range.

I can get together a clip if you want.

But aim-9Ms have significantly nerfed lock ranges at the moment, they are a Dechirped seeker, but are C&P of the Aim-9L which is not a dechirped seeker (by default)

The fact that the Aim-9M is the weakest in a short range dogfight but can barely acquire a lock at any range beyond 1km under certain conditions (non-AB and side aspect) is just stupid when the target has been in the LSZ for several KM

We getting Radar fixes for this yet?

I’m honestly done with Typhoon in it’s current state.

Playing Rafale is the best Eurofighter fix. 😉

Typhoon cant even do an restricted climb from take off without losing air speed and stalling…
They have really messed this aircraft up

edit- It was on Afghanistan

Was working fine for me yesterday (mostly stock still)

I’m going 1700 to 1800 km/h in Kfir.
Mostly die to lack of chaff and terrible teams.
I just researched the Derby multiplier now I grab up chaff before I research the new engine.

If we ever get Kfir NG It might end up 0.3 above Eurofighter at this point.^^

Typhoon needs a 25km HMD mode and then it would be playable the Radar man…it’s so bad

It just needs CAPTOR-M

I hate the 9M, the L is literally a more useful missile in SIM. I’ve had 9Ms miss or just vanish even when fired close range in rear aspect.

By what means? Literally the only difference between the AIM-9L and AIM-9M in game is:

  • Smokeless motor
  • IRCCM

Both of those should make the 9M a straight upgrade over the 9L.

The smokeless motor makes it hard to see where it went

Sometimes the flare rejection thingy that prevents you from firing can be a little over-zealous (once had it prevent me from locking because of a burning hulk miles behind the reheating target off my nose) , but usually the 9M is the better option

I don’t get it, once its off the rail you cant do anything anyway.
And you can pretty easily tell that your aim9m aint hitting after 5 seconds even if you dont see it.

With the smoke trail you can see if it went for flares, ran out of energy, etc etc.

Without you just have to make a guess as to why it was defeated unless you go look in replay. I’ve had Aim-9Ms before that seemed to just… disappaer into the ether but could never be bothered to go check the replay to see what happened to them

They absolutely do not seem to behave the same. I’ve watched them fly directly into the ground after I shot at a jet that was well with in its range with a clean shot. We where both a good 100 meters of the deck and neither went lower.

In SIM the whole smokeless things isn’t the biggest deal imo.
