Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

Dont forget that Striker II, Spear-3s, etc etc :P

Do we know what the TWS limit is for ECRS? I can imagine if gaijin has any excuse to keep it at 20 it’s gonna hurt with AESA.

To be brutally honest. So long as there was a priority system in place that would track/show players first and foremost. Dont really need more than 16. But I cant think of a single reason for it to be so low. If even the rafale can manage 40. Then a superior radar like CAPTOR-E should be able to match or even beat it.

There sure appears to be one and it loves missiles. The missile volleys early in the match are practically ECM as far as my CAPTOR is concerned.

Yeah… unfortunately the case.

The ECRS mk1 video makes it look like it scans the full 180x180deg, but I wouldnt be surprised if gaijin just gives it something stupidly low and then calls the vid a marketting lie.

Meant the target number limit.

Oh, no idea

i mean their description even says 100 degrees… so it’s highly unlikely gaijin would mess it up.

if they manage to somehow mess it up i shall just laugh

Misread. It’s poorly laid out.

see, clearly it wasnt close enough for the impact fuse : P

Leonardo UK* but yes, when talking ECRS there are two different lines. Leonardo UK does Mk0/2 and in parallel the Indra/Hensoldt effort with Mk1. I’d assume there is technology sharing going on, but maybe not on the gimbling functions?

The swash plate is kinda a Leonardo only thing it seems (MK0/2 & Raven).

The Mk1 also has a swashplate tho, it can be seen in the video I posted earlier, but heres a gif of it:

So the only 2 explanations I can think of are that:

  1. ECRS mk1 angles the radar 10deg less on the swashplate, resulting in a 10deg loss in gimbal limits and a higher RCS with no clear reason to do so (seems incredibly stupid)
  2. ECRS Mk1 stated gimbal limits are for the full power zone, and the zone beyond 90 deg is retained, but at a reduced output as seen on the ECRS Mk0/2 and ES-05 Raven

This seems the most plausible, given the parallel development.

Yeah, that’s what I think as well, but unless someone gets a word or doc from Hensoldt proving that theory, the germans are getting screwed again in WT, cuz they’ll just get a strictly worse version of the radar the UK gets as it stands…

Well… F, I guess.

Bold of you to assume that Gaijin will go trough the trouble of modeling 2 radars for the EF instead of just copy pasting
