Sort of but to a worse degree as we have hard numbers for a few key systems that could be used to benchmark most things, and ways to estimate it for others.
Some systems basically add a third smaller turbine engine that syphons off fuel out of the aircraft’s internal stores to run the generator to power the Jammer (Ram air systems only function above some specific airspeed and tend to how lower Radiated power, others use the reserve aircraft bus which commensurately needs more fuel to function and reduces effective thrust output), It’s not an a small amount either, especially with Afterburner use and Custom quantities further placing strain on a fairly limited resource.
So without careful planning or an extended encounter could foreseeably run inattentive, performance maxing pilots that get greedy, out of fuel on the return leg of a fighter sweep.
ECM and EW should be in game by now. Jets are expected to face systems like IRIS-T and the upcoming SAMP-T and BUK with no way to engage them or degrade their performance.
Pretty sick of just 2 IRIS-T batteries being able to vomit 32 missiles towards 2 - 3 jets while Typhoon has no real stand off weapons and no FnF weapons, being able to jam/decoy even a single launcher would increase survivability hugely.
Either that or it is very much time for ARMs to be added. In air RB any none stealth airframe will need ECM/EW to have a chance against the future Gen 5s depriving Gripen E the one real advantage they have in the ECM suite is going to make those additions feel hollow.
With how easy it is to notch arh missiles and evade them, no, ECM would just make every missile we have in game a wasted shot, when they do a proper overhaul to all seekers maybe it will be time.
Anyone have primary or even multiple secondary data on captor m? I’ve been wanting to make comparisons to other mech scan radars of the era and see if it really was the best as so many seem to state.
I’ve been trying to find primary data on it, but the most I can find is some data on ecr 90 that wouldn’t even put it close to the flanker radar of the era (n011) which has to be wrong considering how much everyone touts how good the captor m is. From what I understand, captor m should be at minimum as good as ecr 90 as it was developed from it.
the ECR-90 or the European Collaborative Radar 90 was developed from the Blue Vixen
a later modification of the ECR-90 (the ECR-90C) is the radar that was put onto the tranche 1 EFs and renamed to Captor-C once it entered serial production
later iw was upgraded because the electronics became obsolete that upgraded version was called the Captor-D, which was put into the Tranch 2 EFs
Flame had this which suggests that captor m is at least better than ecr 90. But I’m more looking for data on how many targets it can track and attack at once etc
