I dont think this is a “Typhoon” specific issue. Instead affects most of the top tier. Though would also need sources to state that the Typhoon cant do such a maneuver
Though its also kinda a low priority. Such a tactic would probably end up killing you in the Typhoon and at the moment without any form of HOBS, you cant exploit it for stupid shots like you can in the Su-30SM.
Would this not be considered a cobra? im a little confused what you doing to get that much aoa. Are you going to like 600-800kph and just yanking it up in the manoeuvre mode.
This is an issue for all unstable aircraft in Sim outside of MiG-29 and Su-27 variants. It allows a bunch of planes to compete in flight regimes where they should not be competitive. It means that there a lot of positions in a dogfight that would normally be safe that can be completely negated by aggressive pitching in manual controls at the right time.
At 42 seconds you can see how Rafale pulling beyond AoA limit is able to pull for a shot at low speeds. You can see me do the same thing with Eurofighter at 1:24. A lot of the shots in this video end up coming down to exploiting manual controls and 50+ available AoA.
The whole implementation of maneuver mode is basically a farce. In real life what manual pitch over ride does is relax some of the control parameters to assist in recovering from a spin; it is not a goofy pseudo-cobra button.
The BOL on the Typhoon which is responsible for that “High CM count” is artificially nerfed to an extreme degree to the point where you need dozens of BOL CMs to match the performance of even a single regular CM most of the time.
In the most commonly used config for the Typhoon, you run 2+6 loadout, which is at best, the same as the Rafale, but the Rafale can run 8x MICA EM, the Typhoon cannot run 8x AMRAAM. Whilst the Typhoon can run 6+4. The Aim-9M is an incredibly weak missile most of the time, by far the weakest in a dogfight at the very least and is in need of buffs like giving it its IRL lock ranges. Id kill for half the HOBS performance that either the MICA EM or Magic II have, but we have to wait for ASRAAM and IRIS-T for that.
In addition to the Rafale having the superior missiles, it also has the best radar in game that few can compete with. Typhoon certainly cannot, evne with its new radar. For true parity we need CAPTOR-E.
The Rafale also dominates the Typhoon in A2G, with teh Typhoon having an artificially nerfed A2G loadout which is one of the weakest loadouts at top tier.
The only real advantage the Typhoon has over the Rafale is a slightly superior FM, but that is entirely and completely negated by the fact the Rafale has those HOBS missile and doesnt need a clear line-of sight. In a very short range dogfight, the only reliable weapon the Typhoon has is its gun. The Typhoon also has the advantage in long ranged BVR, but anyone with basic understanding of game mechanics can negate that advantage in litereally any aircraft
TLDR: Typhoon still needs more buffs to bring it on par with the Rafale F4 the French have. Such as:
Yeah, its probably underperforming in most regards. But at an absolute bare minimum, it needs to be given the better notch resistances the MICA EM has. That would at least make it far more potent when used at extreme ranges
Both the MICA EM and Magic II are incredibly potent HOBS missiles that neither the Aim-9M or Aim-120B/C5 can hope to compete with at short range. The only option for HOBS would be ASRAAM and IRIS-T , which of course would come with MICA IR, but at least then both aircraft would be on an equal footing in the HOBS department and wouldnt result in the Rafale having an overwhelming dogfighting advantage
Yes, but Id rather have everyone armed with HOBS, than only a minority. The difference between Aim-9M and Magic II is significantly greater than the difference between ASRAAM/IRIS-T and MICA IR . If anything, IRIS-T and ASRAAM hold notable advantages over the MICA IR. Aim-9M holds almost none over the Magic II.
Obviously. They could only come to everyone at the same time. (though question would be which Python they’d add) but I think it needs to happen sooner rather than later. My guess, maybe end of this?
IRIS-T is the vastly superior ultra short range dogfighting missile and ASRAAM has insane short to medium range speed. Meaning reacting to it will be close to impossible. MICA IRs only major advantage is a slightly superior max range, but im guessing Gaijin will mitigate that somehow.
MICA performs similiar when it comes to short range fights while having similiar acceleration compare to ASRAAM while also having longest range between all of them.
ASRAAM might be faster, not so sure about that but having 60G or 100G missile will not change the outcome, you will die regardless :D
