I imagine gaijin is trying to play it semi-safe. They’ve already made a huge technological overstep with the FGR.4 and are now playing catch-up to try to fix it. I only somewhat blame them for releasing it too early, but I can see why it is taking so long to actually find solutions to these issues which can be reliably backed by sources. Especially when systems like praetorian MWS and the CAPTOR require entirely new frameworks for operation.
The aircraft we currently have is technologically decades ahead of basically everybody until g5 jets start coming in. No other way about it really. We’re using weapons that are absurdly old for the airframe simply to keep some semblance of balance.
We cannot get CAPTOR-E because that means gaijin:
skips an airframe which they would have to add later, as an early typhoon would still have to be added
widens that technological gap HUGELY
is effectively condemning themselves to updating the aircraft existing in the techtree, instead of adding new ones, which as a business is a terrible idea.
Had the same argument with gaijin over the 25SM3. Kh-38 isn’t even listed in the manual and yet it’s a matter of definitively proving it can’t have it.
Apparently the Typhoons have something called MPO which overrides it’s AoA limiter. So I’d imagine there will need to be a bug report for this to try and get it added. It should function pretty much the same as it does with the F-18’s and Su-30SM
It was planned together with a panic button that would automatically recover the plane as well but idk if it got implemented, maybe there’s a button in the cockpit for it.
In the datamine it has 20 km range against 1 m^2, while Wikipedia says 20 km range against 0.1 m^2. It is also not modeled as Ka-Band in game. At any rate testing in this thread and discord has shown typical detection range in battles to be only a few km (not 20 km). So the data-mined value is likely just a coincidence because the actual performance of the MAWS in game does not reflect the Wikipedia article at all.
Also fun fact: despite supposedly being modelled as radar MAWS now it is still triggered by flares currently…
It looks still very much wip, and I wonder if the 10km ranging is correct. After all it needs to provide the warning, and calculate a correct maneuver early enough, so the pilot can react and preform it. Considering how fast modern missiles are, 10km is a very small window.
