Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

Did a quick supercruise test. Decent chance the EFT and Rafale will be roughly matched in supercruise once the Rafale FM changes. Rafale likely wont be outright superior like I initially believed. It will likely still be superior in 1c and 2c though considering the “increased thrust, lowered drag” comment.

Spoiler
  1. 9km is the stated alt from the devs response to the EFT supercruise bug report, with 4+4 load (as per flames bug report)

  2. 11km w/2xAAM is the stated condition from the devs response to the Rafale supercruise bug report

  3. 12km w/2xAAM testing request for tech mod

Started with full fuel on all 3, took the screenshot when speed stopped changing.

So the EF with more thrust than the Rafale is supposed to super cruise at Mach 1.5 but can only achieve 1.34 because it’s unrealistic for it and the manufacturer claim is a marketing lie.

The Rafale states 1.4M and they say that’s unrealistic but still adjust it to 1.32?

Why the hell does the Rafale only lose roughly 6% of it’s SC ability yet the Eurofighter around 12%?

Given the Eurofighter has more thrust overall it doesn’t make any sense for it to cruise at basically the same speed…

If they give the EF the same treatment it should be able to supercruise at 1.41M.

I also love how they state that the Rafale currently matches most data points but they will increase thrust and decrease drag to make it supercruise better. So it’s just going to overperform overall now?

They really need to rework the games drag model. High altitude drag for missiles and planes is out of whack.

I’m not entirely sure, but may be caused by differences in the Bypass ratios / Compressor staging layout of the engine(s)

It’s the result of them making some simplifications for the modeling, and using semi-fixed values for live gameplay, in place of a mapping since it’s a good enough approximation outside “edge cases”, and saves significant work for the Client / Server so reduces overhead freeing up that work for use elsewhere.

Makes me wonder how the AMK kit will end up.
Its the only realy major change besides better armament they could add right now.

Not like with rafale which had multiple staged and they just decided to jump them all at once

Likely to be same thing with Slats & Flaps of the F-4E / F-14A, the Instructor will Pull as hard as it can and so dump all the energy far faster than it should So in effect will significantly complicate energy management. And so will be a net negative outside Sim.

The same thing has happened with a most of of the Teen Series jets, F-4 and others.

It’s genuinely amazing to me how one can look at real life data, attempt to replicate it in an abstracted simulation, have incorrect results and then, instead of attempting to fix the simulation, come to the conclusion that: “No, clearly real life is wrong”.

I’d say that the ratio already got factored in by enabling the Rafale to SC at 1.4M.

It has considerably less powerful engines and the design is decently comparable.

What I meant was that the Typhoon gets artificially nerfed by 12% because they don’t believe the claim, yet they also don’t believe the claim for the Rafale but only nerf that one by 6%.

I don’t know, maybe the focus is on the Rafale right now, and we see a few more changes and patches to the EF after.

From what I have read the AMK kit doesn’t allow the plane to pull any harder.

It improves roll rate and nose pointing authority at slower speeds by increasing AoA limits, thus decreasing turning radius. It shouldn’t inherently make the plane pull harder, but due to the higher allowed AoA one could expect the speed to drop somewhat faster and have a lower end speed in a continuous circle.

These two statements contradict eachother

it’d pull harder only in scenarios where its AoA limited.
high speed is likely not affected

Increasing the AoA limits will not bleed more speed at very high speeds when you are limited by your structural integrity…

I also don’t think it will affect turn performance at higher speeds. It’s mainly supposed to improve AoA at low speeds, I don’t know if the high speed limitations also get increased.

Another bug*

Nah its likely effected at higher speeds as well, part of the AMK kit is the enlargement of the wings control surfaces, providing them more control authority at all flight regimes.
Aero_Mod_Kit

The LERX’ and delta strakes are also to substantially improve over wing vortex generation which should improve L/D ratio at all speeds when turning. The effect will be more noticeable for high AoA tho afaik.

At least with teen series we’ve been getting the A first, likely to be broken by F/A-18C but still better than jumping to 2019 rafale and a T2 EFT

Does PIRATE have a laser rangefinder?

No, it has passive ranging

This may be a dumb question but is the typhoons glass canopy bulletproof ?

probably not, if youre being shot at by calibres that WOULD be stopped by armored glass then i think you have bigger issues

Created a bug report to add profile MFD’s for the radar and IRST on the EFT.
Eurofighter missing radar elevation profile MFD’s

I’ll work on bug reporting the fact Rafale, EFT, and Kfir C10 show up as “?” on the DASS format MFD once I get around to it.
