Decided myself to went the possible way of IPA7in the future, aka, will add even the IRST/LWS reports :)
Good plan.
Gunna be another soon. I just need to write it (must do it tomorrow) for a report for PW4s missing DL. Should be able to update their target point mid flight (currently only works when within laser spot range)
Link?
:P
But yes, will tag you when written
Well, would be in the List under ammunition anyway, just like the Brimstone reports :))))
(Maybe will add then twice… 1x under EF, 1x under ammo…)
Good video on an F-22 drivers opinion on Typhoon
Notice how he talks about the power of the engines in an unrestricted take off. He isn’t the first to do so.
He talks about energy retention and recovery Typhoon is so fast and light, it recovers energy faster/equal to an F-22.
He does talk about the Radar and how he considers it as the one draw back to Typhoon compared with F-22s Radar.
He also highlights slow speed and the lack of TVC hurts Typhoon and it’s auto recovery system.
I know we don’t take pilot testimony as a source
I don’t think that’s necessarily relevant because we’ve had multiple sources claim that it can do Mach 1.5 on supercruise, (including one from Switzerland claiming it can do Mach 1.4, which would still mean it underperforms in game). The issue is that certain users are arguing over semantics (i.e. what defines supercruise), when that discussion is not relevant to this thread.
I’m surprised to see that the issue of radar locks switching to IRST isn’t mentioned more here, it’s essentially making the Aim-120s straight up unusable at times, as the radar will switch from PD to IR multiple times per second when I acquire a lock sometimes. Target can be flying straight ahead at you or actively notching, this bug still persists in all parameters.
The issue is more that
- The CAPTOR-M is kinda trash in-game
- The PIRATE IRST isnt being allowed to work in the role of fire director for AMRAAM’s because of the devs beliefs.
There is essentially no reason for the PIRATE IRST to be switched to if it is not able to slave the radar or guide a missile, which is the situation we currently find ourselves in. The interesting bit being that afaik, no other IRST sensors ingame get switched to as part of the radars track chain, which would suggest (imo) that the devs initially planned to have it work in the role of fire director for AMRAAM’s or in the function of slaving the radar, but either couldnt gwt it to work or changed their mind, leaving us with the mess we’re now in.
In the case of PIRATE, it is completely bugged, like it will switch back and forth incredibly fast and the entire system just bugs out, forcing you to re-lock, which most of the time will just auto switch to the IRST anyways, its actually insane how broken it is and it still hasn’t been fixed.
It feels like early mig29 radar level, i think it’s a bit of skill issue from my part but i still find f15C more comfortable to use at top tier than the EFT due to its crap radar, also I’m not used to its speed so i break the plane everytime lol
I wouldnt go that far. With the latest round of fixes, I would say its equal to Blue Vixen (Sea Harrier FA2 and Gripen A/C). So a “fine” radar but still no where near the performance it should be given that many other mechanical radars out perform it so significantly.
I just picked up a ghost on the ground in GRB… And it stayed there for like 10 sec… No one was there…
Weird, did a fairly decent length match yesterday in sim and didn’t get a single ghost
Unfortunately the IRST is game limited.
It should be always active and the sensor information should overlay on the radar and should work like a TWS radar.
It also does not have any sensor limits and should always operate at the maximum limits. It should also be fully stabilised in the roll axis when corrently it is not.
Aka, the system is fully digitalism but seems to a copied and pasted from the SU27.
Similar to the F14 camera, the IRST should provide an image of whichever target is being currently tracked by the pilot.
The radar modes are also incorrect. TWS and GMTI TWS should be the only radar modes for searching and tracking targets.
The radar does also not have a STT/PD “hard lock” mode, but pilots can priority track specific targets, or the computer will priority track targets of the highest threat automatically.
Another thing,
I don’t see a report for the automatic electronic roll stabilisation of the radar.
This is relevant only to the ECR90 as it was installed on the GEC BAC 1-11 Test bed.
Individual modes such as VS and RWS, have been dropped from the production models of captor M in tranche 2+, perhaps even earlier as they are considered obsolete.
The radar still performs these functions, but it is all computed automatically behind the scenes by the threat analysis computer.
RWS & VS might have, but STT needs to be there for HUDACQ, SACQ or VACQ to work. Its quite simply not doing TWS for its ACM modes.
Sidenote, HUDACQ and SAQC is missing in-game. It has the standard 5x5 deg and 2 vertical scan modes, 7x50 deg and 7x30 deg. None of which fill the HUD:
(Its hard to get a good snapshot of something thats flashing cut me some slack plz)
Among other missing things of varied criticality, particularly for sim players.
Also, just came back from playing another 4 games in sim with the EFT and the radar is BRUTALLY awful, bordering on completely unusable quite frankly. The amount of targets spotted in the radar but with no track data (ghosts I presume?), losing locks on targets fling directly at me, sometimes that I could physically see, and the general complete lack of concrete info on where the radar is pointing unless you have it pointing directly in line with the nose is maddening. I quite frankly cannot think of a worst radar experience I’ve had yet. This might have something to do with the MFD’s being broken, but considering the known issues with the radar, and the fact ive heard similar complaints from non-MFD players, I’m inclined to believe it wasn’t the MFD that was messing with me there…
The MAWS being set off by flares is also nightmare fuel. The shear panic I feel when I get into a dogfight and suddenly have 17+ MAWS alerts going off simultaneously, drowning out any and all other sounds, Id 100% rather have the option to turn MAWS off entirely, as all it does is hamper my situational awareness.
the complete lack of NEZ info anywhere in the cockpits MFD or HUD also sucks, and the fact the MFD RWR doesn’t have the same aircraft data as the in-game green RWR is infuriating.
Lot of potential in the EFT, but its radar, MFD’s, HUD, MAWS, and RWR all need a hell of a lot of work, because at the moment, all of them are missing critical info and providing a ton of junk info that is borderline unactionable.
