How does it achieve 360 protection if the rear sensor is not 180°
Stop putting the blinders on then

That would be the maximum possible gimbal speed.
The maximum gimbal speed of the blue vixen is 300 degrees/s
The maximum acceleration is 2000 deg/s squared.
The maximum scan speed in tws mode was still 60 degrees per second.
Maximum gimbal and acceleration speed of of the radar is as far as I can see, not modeled in the game and technically infinite.
Huh
Yes IRL the voice on the typhoon is an English woman, she sounds like an old character from downtown abbey, speaks very proper!
I’ve heard them all, her shouting ‘total hyd failure’ is a scary one!
My god it’s like Lizzy “God rest” her is in the cockpit with me, someone needs to sound mod this!
It states the drawbacks of PD MAWS in an entire section, it is not an offhand sentence. Take the blinders off and find me a source that contradicts what was stated by that source. I’m not peddling misinformation, you are asking me to prove the sky is blue.
No need to insult people. If the rear receiver isn’t 180 degrees you would have a large blind spot on the back left and back right where it isn’t flush with the wings spanning a total of 60 degrees.
Maybe the rear radar is made up of smaller radars that electronically scan to the sides and behind to achieve 180 degrees. It would explain why it is so long, and maybe the wing roots use the same tech.
Oh you mean the other one?
If all the radars do say ±61°, that blindspot is less than 290 meters long. with ±62° its even less at 140ish meters.
Only if the radars do EXACTLY 60° you will have a maybe 10m wide blindspot
Does 360 degree protection imply blind spots to you, why are you doubting the rear antenna covers 180 degrees? The sources state that angle of approach accuracy is poor, I never stated a specific accuracy or how poor it might be because I don’t have that information. Obviously it’s vastly inferior to IR based MAWS.
Ona side note, the second part of the wing mounted missile approach warning antenna is not part of the MAWS but rather is a forward low noise amplifier that seems to be part of a separate system?
I’m doubting it because it doesnt fit my assumption its phased arrays.
And yes, as I said, assuming the radars all do ±61° that means the blind spot will only be ~290m LONG. Everything outside of that range will be detected in a 360°.
This is something that ALL radar systems using multiple distributed panels have
This isn’t a 2D equation, the rear receiver must cover a much larger vertical area hence the shape and size of the rear receiver and its’ placement. The assumption that it can’t cover 180 degrees is just out of pocket nonsense.
Quick question, should the tornado have ground radar?? not 100% if the captor-m had it
Both have
But its not given in-game right?? I know the tornado hasn’t for the brits I know how switch to it and it don’t got it that’s why I asked
EFT will get it soon, when Tornado will get it is a mystery.
The Tornado MFG has a naval search radar due to the ASMs it carries and the Tornado WTD61 has it as well because it’s just a reskinned MFG.
All Tornado IDSs should have access to the same naval search mode and a more advanced ground search radar mode.
Typhoon was confirmed to be getting back GMTI/T Soon™
Hopefully sooner rather than later but knowing us brits it’ll be later… Gotta suffer first ;)
Yeah… I hope that now more and more aircraft are getting proper A2G radar modes that the Tornados might one day also get them.
