Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

Interesting…

Its IIR, not UV, tho i guess there is the possibility of it also having UV, but I dont see it anywhere. Should not give MAWS in clouds because of this, and should be blind to missiles which are blocked by the fuselage/wings due to the placement.

There was a render that demonstrated it, unfortunately google has decided that I don’t want to see it at this late hour, so I will have to put off my digging.

Think in the ilk of the Hornet dual racks (I don’t think its those exact ones though)

That cursed thing with amraams on brimstone launcher?

Wasn’t the one I was thinking of.

But that’ll do for our purposes (the whole thing is a bit disputed, since we’ve never seen anything but renders, so it’s all a bit conjecture as to whether it could actually be done to my knowledge. It probably could)

I’m a bit curious, but what about the Typhoon’s frontal RCS reduction? I’ve heard that it’s one of the best among 4.5 generation aircraft, and behaves like a semi-stealth aircraft. I heard that the proposal to reduce the Rafale’s RCS to the same level as the Sparrow was accepted, and I thought the Typhoon would be better or about the same, so I’d like to know.

Don’t F-16 USAF/ANG have this system?

And doesn’t F-15 have either JHMCS D or JHMCS 2? Maybe tested or operational, I’m not sure

Showing a top-down pic to show frontal RCS area is kind of pointless. Says a lot that the entire front end is returning some sort of radar signature.

Rafale is superior to the Eurofighter in low-observable performance, as far as I know.

Doesn’t matter since you HAVE to carry any weapons on exposed hard points anywyas

This is true.

Stealth is butchered anyways. F-117 was nearly undetectable by full power fixed targeting radar, let a fighter or mobile one

What makes the Typhoon a menace is that it has some of the best ECM in the world. Maybe even the best ECM in the world. Even F-22 struggle vs the ECM

Source for that claim? I have heard that the Rafales ECM suite is stellar.

I cant find the article now, but there was a quote from one of the F-22 pilots the esssence of which was that the F-22s in that Luftwaffe Typhoon vs F-22s at Red Flag couldnt lock on at ranges they normally could and were forced to close the gap quite a bit, what would have potentially been in range for PIRATE to pick them if they had them equipped.

Though you do have articles like this that might be slightly self boasting:

Then ECRS mk2 is often described as world leading as well going forward:

The F-22’s radar is insanely powerful and proven to be incredibly potent when used to jam. It could probably fry a eurofighters captor M, and cause serious issues with the mk2

F-22 full avionics suite is heavily fused together, the radar can use it rwr (which can already pinpoint targets) to cue a narrow, very powerful beam to lock a target at ranges it otherwise wouldn’t have found it at
