Yeah some minor differences but overall mostly comparable which i’d be happy with.
Add AMK into the mix and you get lower fuel burn, which means a lower fuel load, in addition to all the flight performance upgrades, on an aircraft that could potentially receive the best radar (ECRS MK.2) and the IRST as Germany can technically use it.
I got a huge paragraph about it in the German Eurofighter thread but from my quick google literally just now, it would suggest due to the two-colour seeker IRIS-T has increased DIRCM resistance (and not whatever the guy in the other thread said) compared to ASRAAM.
Yep, it can probably even guide meteors. Definitely can Datalink ASRAAM as the ASRAAM can supposedly function as a ‘range extender’ for the IRST but the IRST has a 150km rear aspect range.
ah ok, worst comes to worst might need to accept, german being the superior air fighter variant through amk kit and uk being superior multi role cas because of better cas loadouts. At least until germany gets their pinnacle version , which would be far away
"The Pirate will provide a passive IRST capability to the Typhoon and will permit it to detect and track air and surface targets and will also provide FLIR imagery for low level flight and navigation during all-weather, day or night operations. The Pirate’s hardware is housed in a compact, single line-replaceable unit that contains the optical system and signal processing assemblies. This-state-of-the-art system gives Eurofighter IRST capabilities above that of most fighter aircraft in service today. It complements the aircraft’s active sensors and datalink systems and significantly enhances vital battlespace situational awareness for the Typhoon crew and its missions. "
Oh i know, but I said DIRCM in this thread, because a guy in the German Eurofighter thread, told me ASRAAM was worse because the IRIS-T has DIRCM and ASRAAM doesn’t, but now I look at what he said, DIRCM is a countermeasure, not a seeker system so that makes no sense.
If Germany gets AMK, they will have to lose something like the IRST, or the multirole armament, or perhaps be limited to ECRS MK.1.
Some sort of concession as the Eurofighter is a multinational effort, just because they chose to use AMK on German Eurofighter doesn’t mean only Germany should get it as no partner nation has ordered it.
I vaguely remember that they also first trialed Brimstone on German aircraft (but someone may correct me) it just seems like they seem to get the most usage.
Its probably a case that Germany has that tool in its pocket, should it ever need it. But they dont plan to ever need it unless Russia does something very stupid.
Whilst the RAF will get involved in things like Op Shader
