Not sure how much I believe this claim, but during a podcast, a german air force lieutenant claims the Eurofighter can accelerate from “around 200 knots (M0.31)” to supersonic in 5 seconds or less, which is beyond ludicrous in my mind
That would represent an average acceleration of around 48m/s^2, or around 4.90g of acceleration…
Even the thrust seems ludicrous. If we consider the engines generating max power in ideal circumstances, even at minimum unloaded weight, they could still only achieve 16.3 ms^-2 from wikipedia stats.
RAF website states that it can generate a max of 40,000lbf of thrust at max power (AB included), so it is of course possible the Germans fitted a hyperdrive to their Typhoon?
Remember wiki thrust is static thrust iirc. By comparison, thrust curves i’ve seen for the F-110 engine, which are stated to be between 28000-32000lbf actually go as high as 38000 lbf, if not more iirc?
The pilot also mentions that in the video, stating something along the lines of “as the plane goes faster, the engine gets more air and can accelerate more”
That makes more sense, can you post the source for that though? it doesnt seem to line up with the wiki which states “brakes off to supersonic: <30 seconds”

but i personally dont think thats up for debate when all of the pylons have the necessary wiring and the manufacturer of the mounting point literally says that they have the necessary mechanical interface and electrical connections to mount a missile rail lol
I suspect the EF will have a high fuel burn, so perhaps that central 1500 litre tank may still be useful for getting into battle and then being dropped to maximise performance.
