Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

so, it not just me that I feel better using Gripen radar than EFT

Nope, Gripen radar has better scan volumes than the EFT’s. A decent amount better actually. The EFT has better range, but its irrelevant considering the maps and weapons. The tighter beam on the EFT might help it in some scenarios as well, but I dont think its to the point its noticeable.

Afaik, most if not all ppl who’ve used both have said the Gripens feels much better. I cant comment though since i dont have the Gripen myself.

Well from my experience I can say I can find target better than Faster than CAPTOR-M
I feel more comfortable using Raven than CAPTOR-M in any mode like 20 percent more comfortable than CAPTOR-M
first, I thought maybe because I’m playing with Gripen lot more times than EFT
but after I saw your table, I don’t think it a case anymore.

Captor M just wont detect or lock. You see contrails below and to the left. Slew the Radar…and Captor sees nothing.

You are wholly dependent on your team mates spotting targets for you.

You can see it with your Mk1 eyeball and your Radar cannot and it will get you killed.

Captor is held back and I think it is intentionally.
Much like MAWs/DASS and BOL countermeasures.

Typhoon with an AESA Radar would be superior to Rafale/Su-30/F-15 etc and risk breaking the games balance

this is just how gaijin models radars i dont really know what to tell you

Well a smart person would model it like a PESA Radar to show the significant improvement a newer generation of Mech scan Radar.

It shares more with PESA and AESA than it does with 80s mech scan Radars

But no Typhoon cant have common sense applied

not entirely sure thats true honestly

I’m not sure you know the specs of Captor.
It was seen as superior to the PESA Radar on Rafale for the time.

more like anything that isn’t Russian
From Leo 2A7 that should have same level of armor of 122
to CAPTOR M radar

As a British main only having to deal with one super armoured Leopard is a blessing 😅

I don’t think an AESA on the Typhoon would make it better than the Rafale, BVR is still not the meta (as every match ends up in mid or close range furballs), so I’d argue that a Rafale with its micas would still be dominant.

Big thank to lot of whiners that need to keep multipath as free ticket to avoid ARH otherwise they can’t do anything.

To be fair dodging a fox 3 at long range is even easier than using multipath to avoid it, you just need a good defensive circle/turn to make the seeker lose you. This ofc changes the closer you get to the furball, and even in that case, multipath can get bypassed by high aspect launches.

Just flew 2 sorties in it, died twice, once to a teammate (average blueside player lmao) other time to 6 su 30s pushing me to air field (was like a 3 v 9 it is what it is), got 6 kills. Honestly, no problems with the radar. No ghosting, nothing like that. Worked perfectly fine. Technically only got 1 kill from radar bvr, every other kill was from HMD targeting.

Then of course you had no issues, you hard locked instead of using the TWS.

If you need to hard lock because the TWS is so buggy it’s unusable then clearly something is wrong

Which is fine if they are within those ranges you can lock them with HMD and not depend on the Radar
Saying the Radar is fine because I can use HMD isnt thw full story

i mean its generally good practice to use hmd instead of tws at close range on every radar, even on the rafales

Nah I never had issues in bvr using the radar, albeit I only used narrow scan (didn’t need to use medium or wide scan at all), and then within 20 km, why not use hmd?

Agreed but I would also like to be able to reliably detect and track targets further than 20km away

its been reliable in my experience
