If they use this and give it to all eurofighter, but still wont increase the ecrs mk1 fov I will be greatly disapointed

What has NCTR to do with an FoV?

They probably mean because the primary source is Hensoldt, which only works on the Mk.1, the report should only apply to the Mk.1 (tho I haven’t looked at the EADS paper tbf, could be that it specifies that Mk.2 has the capability as well)

Not sure of the legitimacy, but this article directly says the ECRS MK1 has a Field of regard of 200 degrees, and the radar is mounted at a 30 degree angle.

Look at the date it was published, it’s much too old

Look at the article, it DIRECTLY talks about the MK1 ,MK0 and MK2

Development of ECRS Mk.1 only started in June 2020. There was no physical ECRS Mk.1 at that date.

Yes this is what I meant when I said it’s too old

is there any difference ingame between mk 1 and mk 2
??

MK.1 have ±90° FOV MK.2 have ±100° FOV

Technically speaking, pretty sure all the sources referring to ECRS having ground NCTR are german or are from material covering the ECRS Mk1.

Unrelated, but please take a look when you have time everyone!

What I wonder, if the radar resolution is good enough to identify specific tank types, there shouldn’t really be anything stopping it from detecting stationary ground vehicles as well right? It can identify them based on shape and not just movement after all.

Tho I doubt we’ll be able to report that, both because we don’t have any sources for it and Indras CEO gave an interview this year where she said that the radar can track moving targets specifically

It can automatically identify stationary targets. The bug report mentions that high resolution SAR is used in conjunction with automatic target recognition software to detect and classify targets.

SAR (Synthetic aperture radar) basically makes an image out of the radar returns.

So as long as the radar has high enough resolution, and software capable of scanning the SAR returns and identifying various targets and what they are, then it can ID stationary targets just fine.

SAR is actually one of the many methods used for NCTR on jets as well.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I do wonder if we’ll get that capability in game tho

Against stationary targets, probs not for a bit, since all SAR radars already in-game are missing their SAR functions. Against moving targets? Maybe/hopefully.

Fairly certain CAPTOR-M can do that to a certain degree. I’m sure CAPTOR-E is going to do it better
