Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet (Part 1)

For some reason the Typhoon is PD only, it should have SRC as well, which means that the radar is just instantly notched. I need to have a chat with Gunjob about that at some point. Especially in the ACM/HMD modes. But there is certainly an issue that even when the target isnt notching, the HMD/ACM still sometimes wont lock on.

But the bug report submitted for Typhoon ACM/HMD not working right got closed for a lack of information, so i’ll have a go at creating that bug report if I can get it to occur in a match.

I’ve had the “ghosting” issue occur in narrow scan multiple times. In fact my new report for the TWS issues were exclusively using the narrow scan mode to eliminate that as being a potential cause.

Spoiler

This screenshot shows the issue quite nicely. The target is the flaming ball just behind the tail that I’ve highlighted with the red circle. He was traveling down and to the left. The radar is clearly pointing at the target in narrow scan. The Third person marker is off to the far right and traveling away. If I were to have fired an AMRAAM, the missile would head for the marker off to the far right and not the target.

It happens to me from time to time but usually narrow scan doesnt let me down too much.

Nonetheless it should be fixed.

Narrow scan is fine when you know where the jet is…When you are hunting a jet in ground battles or air RB it is a massive hinderance

To say the least, because you just can’t trust your own radar as well. You can’t just scan the part of the map and be sure nobody is there. Playing EF in GRB is like a horror movie.

Yeah, even worse in SB. God knows how many times I’ve scanned something, and it’s not shown up on the radar

But that’s the worst part of the radar at the moment…you can trust it

imho*, the main problem with using a narrow scan sector is displaying the target’s altitude (in the cockpit). As far as I remember (SiCrIT documents), the Typhoon’s RWR can also display the target’s altitude profile. It would be nice if this were implemented as a separate MFD page for the radar, but damn it. Even if I see a signal on the RWR, I still have to spend time manually guiding it.

Especially annoying as the VWS will give you a vague indication if where the RWR warning is. Could really do with the external RWR screen having an alt indicator for contacts. Even if that is just an arrow above or below the the target

Well, the thing is that we have a kind of “2D” contact display. As for IRL, I honestly don’t remember, but I think Typhoon/Rafale and others further down the list already have a similar feature (sometimes I get annoyed by these contacts jumping left and right).

True. In general, sometimes you can use Typhoon as intended: drop ARH at a speed of 1.5+ Mach at an altitude of 30,000 feet (10 km) and get kill, but damn it. This is 4.5 gen. We are still forced to fly close to the ground, simply because it is easier than learning and practicing BVR maneuvers. And even though I have one of the best (if not the best) M-scan radars in real life, I’m still forced to use IRST and fly close to the ground like some kind of Tempest from WW2. It’s annoying.

It’s easier on the Rafale in this regard, where you can always maneuver and throw Mika to the ground, but honestly, damn it x2. Give us true BVR already. And then there are the oddities with missile drag. It feels like we’ve calculated the air drag for carriers more or less correctly, but not for missiles.

Yeah, gets Hella confusing when defending against an ARH missile in a turn and you have no idea if you are notching or not because it’s all over the place.

In this regard, through empirical means, I have determined that it is safer for me to trust the Typhoon’s RWR than the Rafale’s. Although I like all deltas equally. And, by the way, for some reason, DASS has started to respond to flares again.

Yeah, I’m gunna see if I can catch it doing that to create a report (DASS reacting to flares)

Trying to play this again, is it even worth trying to contest the early BVR up high? The radar just seems unusable for that, I don’t see how you are gonna maintain DL on a radar that can’t even keep targets updated or just creates ghosts.

feels like im playing the mig29smt where I can only launch with the HMS/ACM/Hardlock

I see people saying narrow screen, I guess I can try that tomorrow but idk gamers that seems kinda lame.

Hey there - any chance or info about any FnF Air to ground armament for eurofighter in next update?

Mig29SMT radar is goated

Try narrow scan and climb as fast as you can.

Usually narrow scan picks up targets relatively easy, sometimes it doesn’t work tho.

no what would they add

the EFs primary FnF armament is the Brimstone

Yeah, you can also use the narrow scan to give the missiles data link while you’re cranking, but the radar is so shite that sometimes, even if you are using the narrow scan, the enemies sometimes become invisible on your radar or your tws soft lock will move on to another enemy by itself and you’d have to find your targets again to keep the data link, it can be frustrating sometimes but it is definitely worth it to use at bvr, hopefully they’ll fix the radar or just give it the ecrs mk 0 or mk 1 aesa radar for the tranche 2 - 3 variants then give the tranche 4 ones the ecrs mk 2 aesa radar once they’re in the game.
