Absolutely agreed.

i bet when it comes they going to give us sidewinders for balance or something like that

Perhaps, we will see. I think Germany and Italy will have to get sidewinders until the IRIS-T tranche comes in (someone feel free to correct me). The UK should have asraam from the beginning but that’s as may be.

Not really sure how they’re going to implement them, they will definitely be loadout limited upon release.

standard aim 9l, not even the aim 9l(i)

Mk.1 is based on Captor-E Mk.0, it is not an M-scan radar (Captor-M), it was originally known as CEASAR E-scan radar. Although CEASAR was originally based on M-scan radar, as the development progressed, more and more components were switched out, this is how Mk.0 radar looked like by ~2014:

Only receiver and processor remained from M-scan (ableit with improved software for higher output), and to my knowledge both were switched out in the Mk.1 radar, making it only a very distant cousin of the Captor-M.

ASRAAM is better early blocks of AIM9X and it received improvements over the years

I did oversimplify significantly and I wasn’t aware the ECRS MK.0 receiver and processor were swapped out.
But comparatively at least we agree the ECRS MK.2 is fundamentally better than the ECRS MK.1?

I know, I more mean chronologically I expect them to add the very very earliest eurofighters and for the UK they featured ASRAAM, whereas for Germany and Italy the IRIS-T entered service at the end of 2005, whereas the EF had IOC in 2004. So maybe they get AIM-9’s.

Also its a pain in the ASS to find stuff about ASRAAM, I, debating a Freedom of Info request pending for stuff on ASRAAM P3I, that might be a very useful addition.

Anyway, enough on British EF’s.

Yes, it is. As I said previously, Mk.1 lacks the EW capabilites of the Mk.2 (thus it is fundamentally inferior to it in the real world). The amount of their T/R modules however is comparable if not identical to my knowledge (>1600+ T/R modules). ECRS Mk.1 MLU is meant to fix that gap (aimed for 2030+).

In WT, the superiority of the Mk.2 radar will depend on whether gaijin chooses to model the EW capabilites of the ECRS Mk.2, if they don’t, the differences will be unnoticeable, if they do, it will be better.

try finding sth about the AIM 9L(I)

My German is nowhere near good enough for that haha.

u cant with german either xD thats the problem, besides that UK used it as well, same with italy

Thanks for the information.

For gameplay purposes I hope its the same.

“Next came the 9L(I), which had its IRCCM module hardwired into the GCS, providing improved countermeasures as well as an upgraded seeker system. Diehl BGT also markets the AIM-9L(I)-1 which again upgrades the 9L(I)GCS and is considered an operational equivalent to the initially “US only” AIM-9M.”

L(I) was considered equivalent to AIM-9M-5, L(I)-1 is likely comparable to M-7 models.

jup, thats pretty much most which is known, i heard something about the later variant having a smokeless motor as well, but never found sth about that again

Have you any speculation as to why Germany bothered with the Eurofighter EK if the ECRS MK.2 exists with improved EW (based on the Gripens too I believe so VV good), equally if Germany is using the F-35 why bother with the EF EK? The EW of the ECRS MK.2 is why the UK and Italy haven’t bothered funding the EK.

keeping production /development and generaly industry in their own countries pretty much, same can be said for the taurus and the shadow the cruise missles from germany and uk which pretty much are the same

I suppose that’s a fair point as the ECRS radars are by Hensoldt, Leonardo and BAE. Keeps the German industry rolling.

Forum hamster is still dying. RIP Hamster.

Britain has full spec everything, LWR, PIRATE and ASRAAM
