Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet (Part 1)

to be honest i think german eurofighters will get irst like the other ones considering that dcs has them modeled on german typhoons too, so i hope it will be like this

just saying but DCS does not have an official Eurofighter yet

The official advertisment clips show them without IRST

I believe they use a plastic cover to improve stealth that is shot off when the cannon is fired

How bad is MiG-29 and Su-27 FMs are in the game rn?

Afaik its being modelled off of a Luftwaffe service one without IRST.

yeah, pure Air superiority version, they said later on they kinda wanna release a multi role version with all/ the important features

Yea excactly the one from JP

Remove Stealth and add Aerodynamik than you are right

what aim 120 versions does italy use?

once again, i am gonna say it does not matter.
Gajin will equalise them

Besides that there is a eurofighter italy thread as well, just as there is a UK one

I don’t get why everyone is so hung up on the IRST.

Yeah it is somewhat useful. But the germans won’t get as much milage out of it as the brits.

Since the HMD can be slaved to the missile seeker like in the f16c and the short range of the iris-t. The irst is much more useful for it’s range than it’s angles.
So it is much more useful in combination with the ASRAAM anyway.

The PIRATE IRST can be used for guiding AMRAAM without giving any RWR warning to the enemy (until AMRAAM goes active)

At what ranges?

And how useful is it in WT where the RWR is oversaturated with signals anyway?

I think even without IRST the german typhoons will be fine.

tho irl it can also just use datalink to guide in an amraam without rwr warnings

Sure every EF will be doing good,
+I say the germans obe also look better because no IRST

That would be useless until three quarters of players died.
Currently in WT where the RWR is oversaturated, so TWS ping is meanless.
And honestly If you have a Radar with a certain level of performance or higher, IRST is not that much useful.
so I don’t care about German EF 's lack of IRST.

150-165km in optimal scenarios (current irsts peak at 50km btw). More than enough to be very useful, particularly in BVR.

Leonardo have advertised its effective range as ‘comparable to weapons carried’.

The IRST functions is utilised as a radar would but with a different form of radiation and is of course passive.

As has been mentioned very useful for slaving ASRAAM from long range, also due to the 2 way datalink it can guide the missile all the way in. I suspect the ARH seeker may not even need to go active but I’m still looking for confirmation.

How so?

Irst usuall are passive sensors, while radar is active.
That is a massive difference.

Fair on the range though, i didn’t know it was that long.

I mean in its utility. PIRATEs main selling point as you say is that it is entirely passive even compared to other IRSTs which utilise laser range finders and are therefore not actually passive.

It has TWS, A2G and area search modes, it functions as a MAWS (UV) compared to a PD MAWS, also can function as a FLIR and ultra-long-range thermal ‘camera’.

Also has similar (maybe a bit worse) azimuth bounds to traditional non-gimballed AESA arrays at around 150.
