i can finally yap again
anyways
the EJ200 is not a purely RR engine. this is the split:
MTU(Germany): Low&High pressure Compressor, Digital Control System
RR(UK): Inter Duct casing, Combustor, High pressure turbine
Fiat-Avio(Italy): Low pressure turbine, Afterburner, Gearbox(generator)
Sener/ITP(Spain): Nozzle, external Dressing.
So nozzle stuff is ITP’s involvement and they developed the TVC nozzle hardware with the help of MTU who did the control system again. Other companies did provide support but there was a special agreement between ITP and MTU for this development.
Anyways, there isnt really a point to TVC on Eurofighter without AMK as the old flight limits still mostly apply. yeah it provides some 2% more thrust on takeoff and 7% more during supercruise due to better nozzle control but meh. I’d rather get an AMK Eurofighter than a TVC one without AMK. if gaijin wants to add engine improvements they can just add the 15% extra thrust that can be provided through small changes to the engine because the design called for that 15% growth potential
Yeah definitely not a purely RR engine all partners played a part. I always find it interesting why all of the companies are GmbH… like why?
I do wonder how much the original RR engine was improved though as the XG40 produced 95kn and the EJ200 produces similar but higher with WAR power (which by the way we should absolutely get if the MIG-21 BIS gets it).
Intereresting about the ITP x MTU agreement though im 100% sure i read researching it that rolls royce was brought on for consultation on integration into the engine and ended up aiding ITP in making the nozzle, eventually I’ll find and bookmark it again.
But yeah AMK will be the one to go for.
Interestingly i discovered that RAF, and Aeronautica Militare pilots also flew the Eurofighter equipped with AMK kit so theres hope for the UK and Italy too.
Yeah im just confused why its Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug/Eurojet Turbo GmbH and not PLC. (Not to say it should be in English but perhaps PLC on English releases and GmbH on German releases).
Though that adds unnecessary complication, i just wonder why they went to establish in Germany rather than the UK.
I’ve seen the same things. Would be cool to see a breakdown of what was actually changed.
There is a paper you can find on google by Rolls Royce that details the XG40 and its stats and characteristics are virtually identical to EJ200.
I think what will end up happening is that they will add various version that were in service then add prototypes and then maybe when there is nothing else they can possibly add each nation will get versions mounting the upgrade kits.
Germany has the right to install when requested, but chose not due to performance and cost reasons. The best solution would all other nations get it stock, while germany gets it as a rank 3-4 modification
Honestly could live with that, that being said. Multirole get so many possible mods for research because of a2a and ground i doubt their is specialy free space for the IRST
I’d say a Tranche 5 buy is somewhat likely for the UK with both the Defence select Committee and Eurofighter advocating a purchase. Also if the reports are to be believed immediate future Italian EFs will get ECRS mk.0 which definitely has a performance decrease compared to MK.1/2.
As an overall tree, yes Italy is a better pick thanks to the Hungarian line, however once the UK receives proper South African additions like the Cheetah with R Darter and HMD V3 (anologe to the Bison if not better) in addition to domestic high performance aircraft (Gnat, Hawk, Superswift or P.1154) it should equalise or tilt back jn favour
As i always say, British vehicles aren’t bad Gaijins selection is.
Still only amraam-B, iris-t and Meteor but for all 3 variants a further development is planned (as expected because 120C-8, iris-t block B or MLU whatever its called and Meteor MLU)
additional air-ground munitions were integrated (this is either GBU-54 or already Brimstone idk OR its just a summary of everything that happened when it was changed from Air to Air only to Multirole)
Taurus on Eurofighter is officially planned as Tornado will be retired
the contract for carriage testing of ECRS Mk1 was signed on the 16th of April 2024
further adjustments of the Mk1 are planned for the end of this year
talk about a multi channel receiver (uhhh new RWR maybe idk, is mentioned next to ECRS Mk1)
Increased readiness from before (80%+ was stated in earlier reports)
new sensors “among others ECRS Mk1” (ig this just means that new receiver, no mention of PIRATE)
