EldE 98: Missile Trolley

thats true but you can still use it :p, would also be very roundabout

seems legit tbh

question is, how will that 12km translate in game, especially against helicopters

hopefully it doesn’t suffer share the fate of manpad’s IR seeker

keep in mind that the SLS is the same missle as the air launched, which has 25km kinematic range, so you should even be able to lock vehicles from outside of its ground launched kinematic range

so even helis should be able to be locked from 12 km away

i don’t exactly know how IR signatures are modelled for helis, but if i take a Lynx for example, which is the worst case, with a mistral as reference :

Mistral 1 :

  • all aspect lock => 6km
  • lock against a lynx in clear weather in game is usually 1.5km (a quarter of the normal range)

if the lock reduction proportional for a seeker with quadruple the range (25km), it still means you could only lock a lynx at 6.25km (25 * 1/4)

Speculation of course, best to wait dev server at this point i suppose

Hopefully, if the US gets the SLAMRAAM, that will at least give them 25km from what I am reading. Between 120s and 9xs, should be fiarly viable.

Judging by this devblog I can’t see them adding anything with more than 20km range.
They could have chosen the NOMADS for Sweden and artificially nerfed the range (edit: might not even need a nerf, most sources claim about 20km range) to match that of the Pantsir, if they really don’t want to give us more range, but no, they have to add another 10-12km range SAM instead.

Edit: nevermind, the NOMADS would be 10-12km as well, the ranges I found were based on air launched missiles for some reason

That is going to invite a fair bit of (rightfully so) backlash if they do not give something equal to the Pantsir for someone. The annoucement of this didnt even go well. But theres also the issue of what nations have. In terms of missile-based AA capabilties, I don’t imagine nations like the US have much since multi-unit was the preference. The SLAMRAAM is a viable option and 25km to 40km was what it could do.

I just realised that no like the other 2 devblogs this devblog has no video, sadly .i think a video of a launch would have cleared many questions or discussions, also it would have shown how the vehicle drives

since the IRIS-T isnt a pure IR missle, but more a thermal cam, it should be able to lock from very far away still

NOMADS uses IRIS-T as well how would those have 20km range, or do the 9X missles really have 8km extra range on the IRIS-T’s ?

As far as I know most nations don’t really have anything between 12km and 30km range.
Sky Sabre (UK) has 40km+ range
SLAMRAAM has ground launched Sidewinders for shorter ranges, but carries only two of them, the rest are ground launched AMRAAMS with 25-40km range
Type 03 Chu-SAM (Japan), if it even is capable of launching without a separate radar, has 50km+ range
QRSAM (India) has 30km range
Akash (India) has 25-30km range
Aster SAMs (France/Italy)have 30km range and like the Chu-SAM might require a separate radar
Germany apparently only has a couple IRIS-T SLM launchers on trucks, but those would be 40km range as well
SPYDER AIO and SR could be options with 15km range, but might not match the Pantsir

doubling the range of the most op spaa system in the game doesnt seem like a very gaijin like thing to do for a nation that isnt russia

I really don’t know, I’ve read about 20km range and the Sidewinders on the SLAMRAAM are claimed to have 25km range somehow

I’m getting way too many different ranges when looking through the web, doesn’t help that both the SLAMRAAM and NOMADS get linked to the NASAMS when it comes to performance.

yeah good point, maybe they dont have the driving figured out yet so thats why there isnt one

Aim 9x is an all rounder that tries to do everything half heartly.

Iris-t is way more agile. Asraam möre range etc

well maybe but still from 12 to 20 km doesnt sound like half heatrily

Ah, I’ve found the problem of the sources that I’ve found claiming more range. They all used the air launched ranges for some reason.
The NOMADS can fire both Sidewinders and IRIS-T SLS and should therefore also be in the 10-12km range.

I’ll have to edit my other post.

ah that explains

You dont have to go with the 40km option, just the 25km. That is more than fair.

any range futher than 12 is only fair if most nations get it

so in this case the pantsir isnt fair in any way

adding that to just the US is also not fair
