The prototype V-173 could and did fly, The XF5U did not, but it was built. IIRC they had issues with the gearboxes. I would not call the problems insurmountable, as it had many similar issues to early helicopters, but at the point where the issues could have reasonably been resolved, the world was well into the jet age and the navy saw no use in it’s continued development.

So the 2200 lb test version with 160 hp of engine power could fly, and the 15,000 lb version with 2700 hp couldn’t. Check.
(Whenever in airplane dev they say, “no longer relevant” I suspect it really means “did not want to risk any more valuable test pilots trying and failing to fly it.”)
Hey I think it’s a fun vehicle, sure, put it in game, so long as we all accept the flight model here will be completely imaginary (like a lot of other things in WT).

I really hope that the devs have other plans and will add way more of really unique aircraft which are actually relevant for aviation history. I think here at stuff like the TSR 2, the A-5 Vigilante - or the Do 31 which were either stopped by political issues, replaced by doctrinal changes or simply were way ahead of their time or don’t fit into wt’s setup.
Based on wt’s BR setting the pancake might be suited to kill the remains of immersion in Air RB. Nevertheless i will grind the plane - as it is a step in the right direction👍
A real unique aircraft with actual relevance for aviation history in the WW 2 context combines several prop bomber airframes in one, has jet engines, forward swept wings, design modifications based on the area rule and a fixed landing gear - and flew in August, 1944…

yeah, I prefer the 35k events, especially one where you can miss a step. To me that’s the “fun, worth doing level.” I’ve liked the last couple have been reasonable levels of commitment to the game for people with lives and newer players, hope it continues.

Love that the pancake is finally in the game but that grind feels really rough.
given i only play air RB that averages around just less than 15.000 score per day (that’s with all the modifiers taken into account, if they are the same as the previous events).
IDK if i can play for that much :|

from what I’ve read the main problem were vibration issues; tho it did made some short hops.
Unfortunately I am on vacation during the event and can’t even whale it :(
