(Draft) Land Rover WMIK (MILAN)

Suggestion: Land Rover WMIK (MILAN) for the British Ground Tree

VEHICLE SUGGESTION

The Land Rover WMIK (Weapons Mount Installation Kit) is a modified version of the Land Rover 110, developed as a high-mobility weapons platform for British forces. It features a reinforced chassis, roll cage, and multiple weapon mounting points, allowing it to be configured for reconnaissance, fire support, and patrol roles. The WMIK has seen operational use in Iraq and Afghanistan, particularly with reconnaissance and specialist units. Further reading: Land Rover Wolf - Wikipedia

Armament (MILAN Configuration)

Primary: MILAN ATGM
Secondary: 7.62 mm GPMG, .50 cal HMG or 40 mm GMG
The WMIK platform could be configured to carry and employ the MILAN anti-tank guided missile, typically mounted on the rear structure or carried for rapid deployment. Further reading: MILAN - Wikipedia

Mobility and Layout

High speed and off-road mobility, open-top crew compartment, 360° weapon coverage, minimal protection. The design prioritises mobility and firepower over protection, making it effective for fast reconnaissance and ambush roles, but highly vulnerable to return fire.

Why it would fit War Thunder

Adds a lightweight, highly mobile ATGM platform to the British tree. Provides a distinct alternative to heavier vehicles such as the FV102 Striker. Comparable to existing light ATGM carriers, but with greater mobility and significantly lower survivability.

Balance Considerations

Battle Rating estimate: 7.7 – 8.3
Strengths: high mobility, access to guided anti-tank weaponry, flexible positioning
Weaknesses: no armor, exposed crew, vulnerable to machine guns, artillery, and overpressure

Represents Britain

The Land Rover WMIK (MILAN) represents a core aspect of modern British military doctrine: prioritising mobility, flexibility, and expeditionary capability over heavy armour. Widely used in Iraq and Afghanistan by reconnaissance and specialist units, it reflects how British forces adapted to modern conflicts by relying on fast, lightly equipped vehicles capable of rapid deployment, flanking manoeuvres, and hit-and-run tactics. The integration of the MILAN anti-tank missile further demonstrates Britain’s emphasis on giving even light units credible anti-armour capability, allowing small, mobile teams to threaten much heavier opponents. As a result, the WMIK embodies a distinctly British approach to warfare—agile, adaptable, and reliant on skill and positioning rather than brute force.

Summary

The Land Rover WMIK (MILAN) would provide Britain with a fast, lightly protected ATGM vehicle, offering a different playstyle focused on mobility and ambush tactics. Its real-world use and modular weapon capability make it a strong and historically grounded candidate for inclusion.

Car so yes

You need to submit it as a proper suggestion

True but this is also a good way to receive feedback from others who may want to suggest a change in the format or help add sources or corrections ect ect

Yeah, in that case, it would be worth adding something like “[Draft]” to the title otherwise it will be closed by a mod

True

You will need sources other than wiki too.

Last image in your post with the blast plate on the bottom, jerry can panniers, and Blindo wheels is an R-WMIK. Those were produced a few years after MILAN was retired, so might not be the best example to include in a suggestion for MILAN-equipped WMIK.
