It’s not even funny how useless Glaive is about to be at 2.7, with the current state of coastal… Good luck doing literally anything to the DDs you’ll meet every match because some genius slapped them right into coastal mid-to-top-tier matchmaking, and good luck fighting any of the bigger 3.0-3.7 ships with just one crappy L/60 40mm.
The upcoming Glaive is basically a french version of the Australian Attack class PB, that thing already struggles a bit, it’s a reason I rarely play motor bosts past 2.3 unless the maps spawns are favourable to my standards or the vessel itself is powerful or can effectively defend itself.
PB Glaive will struggle with destroyers & frigate type vessels unless within blank range or you know where to shoot the 40 mm/60 & or get lucky with an arty strike. It’ll also face deadly heavy foes from 2.3 - 3.7 like the flower class corvette (unless you get lucky an pop its forward magazines), at 3.0 you’re going to face the minesweeper Schütze which will rip you a new one, at 3.3 MTB Beleno which also like Schütze has a 40 mm/70, at 3.3 there’s also the minesweeper Project 89.2 (Bernau) that’ll nuke you with four 25 mm (same with Project 183), at 3.3 is the Sloop Arras & Amiens that’ll one shot you mostly an finally at 3.7 is the Project 204 corvette that’ll melt you with the twin 57 mm or blast you away with the rocket assisted depth charges.
While I can see Glaive being good thanks to premium bonuses, those will make grinding easy but your opposition will destroy you quickly (especially with how maps are set up), it’ll not be a fun vessel to play in its current form or in either mode.
Hmm, I’ve unfortunately missed the first star but tomorrow, I’ll be using french E50 type Frigates to grind Glaive for the next few stars, (rant on both ships/ a mod cut out), I’d honestly recommend the premium E50 as a TT grinder/ event grinder as those 57 mm will gain score extremely quickly even in its bugged yet powerful state.
No SS.12 missiles?
Lame
They’re likely saving them for a premium version, because every premium version of a TT/event vehicle must be the best one possible :/
Coughcough Salem Coughcough
This thing is almost twice faster, twice smaller, has torpedoes and DC alongside of the Bofors and sits at 2.3.
Can be used with blue water vessels to capture points and to cause some damage.
french coastal is either hilariously over BRd or under BRd, no in between
…Yeah, no, in the current state of naval BRs this thing is just sad. I’ve seen 3+ of them already while I was grinding the last star, and they’ve all died very quickly while accomplishing nothing. How on earth is a slow, torpedo-less patrol boat with a single 40 and two .50-cals the same (higher, even) BR as heavily-armed, heavily-armored monsters like the flower-class Corvettes? And why can it even see destroyers it can do almost nothing against?!
They should have given it its missile launchers even if they were dismantled by the 1980’s.
“The original armament consisted of: one 40 mm Bofors cannon on the foredeck; one 12.7 mm machine gun on the aft deck; and six missile launchers on each side of the superstructure (with the fire control officer stationed on the bridge).
In the 1980s, the missile launchers were removed, and a second 12.7 mm machine gun was installed.
Upon the transfer of the units to the Maritime Gendarmerie, the two machine guns were replaced by two others—first 7.5 mm, and subsequently 7.62 mm.”
Gaijin seems to be incredibly scared of adding SS.12s to the game, whether on La Combattante or Glaive…
It’s incredibly disappointing.
Yeah. Both boats are/were dead on arrival, and if Gaijin doesn’t improve their armament or generally decompress naval I don’t see that changing soon… :/
Honestly, Gaijin just should’ve had Glaive in her original configuration, then had the coast guard paint scheme relegated to a skin as a nod to the refit and nothing else…
Yeah it’s sad. I like French coastal too. I’m only missing the Le Brestois at this point. I was an early tester for French Coastal (I had preordered the VLT-2) I had the tree maxed out at one point. It’s been held back imo.
Yeaaaah, I kick myself all the time for not pre-ordering the VLT-2 seeing as it was the only way to get the free french naval flag :/
It sucks so much that (A) the free french ensign is never gonna return and (B) Gaijin just seems to hate french coastal.
Not missing much on Le Brestois (well except the fire directors for the 57 mm cannons), but no nooo that’s isn’t a bug since they’re also for the 100 mm which has its own fire director (which replaces the m/50 rocket assisted depth charge launcher seen on Le Corse), such a terrible bug report moderator on that report (messaged another mod four weeks ago but no reply on that)… Grantaire gives Le Corse as example & apparently those fire directors are for Le Corse not for Le Brestois even though the report is for Le Brestois which has the same fire directors & a new fire director specifically for the french made 100 mm, the mod says not a bug & closed the report…
I would suggest just getting Le Corse if not already as Le Brestois is a terrible ship at 4.3 BR, Le Corse is so much better than Le Brestois, the 100 mm doesn’t warrant it being 4.3 BR, you lose firepower due to it & especially your rockets that are now gone thanks to the new fire director an boy does it suck facing Condottieri series cruisers with this thing especially the cruiser Raimondo Montecuccoli…
If only La Combattante II came in its later refit as the SS.11’s have shorter range than the 40 mm/60, or hell all the export La Combattante II vessels built in france for Greece, Israel, iirc Germany an another nation over this pathetic vessel.
There’s another thread specifically on the AS.12 refit, but I believe that was shot down.
It’s funny, that specific bug report mod shows up and everyone immediately knows who it is due to the aura of self-righteousness they exude even when they’re completely wrong.
Anyways, yeah, it’s absolutely pathetic that Gaijin’s selling power by making a premium clone of France’s top coastal boat at a lower BR more powerful and less buggy…
Funny thing is Le Corse actually is more buggy in a favourable way, it seems the superstructure doesn’t exist as you can fire weaponry through it especially the m/50 Bofors ASW rocket assisted depth charge launcher… also it seems to have the old code from the German Type F120 frigates in that you can hold down the trigger without reloading the six barrels & all eighteen 375 mm rockets can be shot in under 30 seconds.
Why yes I’ve exploited these flaws a lot with Le Corse & it helped me sink an iNAVY player’s Condottieri series cruiser over landmass & blanketing their ship to sunder since Le Brestois couldn’t do squat.
Also for the mod, I actually don’t think it was that one, while they’re known for being terrible, I think it might have been another one as this was a terrible decision tbh.
The only major flaw with those ships are the forward magazines go up like it’s re-enacting USS Mount Hood AE-11, especially if the torpedo magazines also explode.
Still they’re both better than Glaive hah hah.
Can confirm, le Corse is also far more reliable against big foes in closed environments against a destroyer who gets too close precisely because of the anti-submairine rockets
Not to mention all the bugs you mentionned and the .3 lower br
