The problem I see here is this:

• The tank is not only not having composite modelled, they don’t even seem to be modelling the ballast that was put in place to do automotive tests taking into account the weight from composite.

• Therefore, the tank will likely weigh the 56 tonnes as if it had composite/ballast, without having any of the added protection either of those would provide.

Ideally I think gaijin should just model structural steel blocks in place of the composite and call it a day, that is both historical and would provide at least some extra protection. otherwise we are going to get an overweight tank compared to how it would be with “hollow” turret armour as they want to add.

With regarads to L26 that became a thing mostly in the late 1980s just before the Gulf war, the Cheiftain 900 is from 1981 I believe, so a bit early.

Yeah, the other option is removing the weight the composite/ballast would add and then making the tank faster in the process. However, I dont think we have any specific details of how much weight the composite added for them to do this.

They also claim that it is just a normal Cheiftain Mk.5 underneath, but as the photos we have of the tank prove, it is a completely different turret design underneath.

That photo is of the hull + a CR.1 Turret used as a range target,
The Chieftain 900 turret was removed and used as a testbed for the Macrioni, then later used as part of the Chieftain 2000 programme.

Gaijin have already set the precedent by adding the MSC with composite and it would make the tank a lot more unique.

I’d happily see it come as a Premium, but the composite armour is integral to the design. Otherwise it’s just a Mk 5 wearing a costume.

ROF marketed this tank with Chobham armor, however in reality the two built prototypes never had this fitted.

This will be the case in game too, as it will not have the proposed Chobham armor package. Instead, it will have the previously mentioned metal-cladding, providing slight protection improvements, but in reality it is nothing to write home about. Underneath is the classic Chieftain Mk 5 turret and hull, which remain the same — pretty good armor against a variety of rounds, however the hull and lower plate are still large weak spots.

Oh, okay. Now let’s wait for the game’s birthday event, and if the prediction comes true and there’s XF5U as a prize, then we’ll see if the snail installs machine guns in it, which have never been installed there before.

It hasnt got as much power as a perkins CV12 so it’s mobility won’t be on par, it will be slightly better than a Mk5 but sacrifices the stillbrew of the mk10. I’f it isn’t 9.0 if be shocked as it is the perfect in-between of Mk5 and Khalid

Why would it be 9.0?
It has marginally worse mobility than a khalid, same round, reload and tech , as well as it has the “steel” armour added in.

It’ll be a minimum of 9.3.

Well, unless they give it the same ammo as the Khalid, but even then I believe it would end up being 9.3

It has 300 less horsepower and a noticeably lower top speed. The reverse speed will be much worse I imagine.

It also wont get the improved gun handling of the Khalid

I hope its 9.0 for a period, wouldnt mind it to bolster the 9.0 lineup some more.

the chieften is 9.0 and while it doesnt get an engine upgrade it does get armor, so im hoping that because this gets a slightly better engine but no armor itll be a trade off. Its has what, 150 more HP than the chiefseven
