Dev server "Leviathans" ~ Datamined oddities, Soyuz SAP, Roma SAP&AP, dispersions

speaking of the reload on roma, its not fair that other nations (except the US) get their perfect fastest reload, while US and Italy get their average reload, even if Littorio and Vittorio Veneto managed to on average reload in 30 seconds or less during an exercise.

Dear Spanish_avenger, it’s been a long time since we talked about something.
Please let me give you my little contribution to the topic.
The 381/50 were designed for a velocity of 870 m/s, after the development phase and after the trials it was decided to reduce the velocity to 850 m/s in order to have better resoults regarding the accuracy at long ranges.
these cannons had axceptional performances in therms of range and penetration power of the shell, so much that they had performances more similar to the 406mm than to the 380mm of other nations.
This is confirmed by several sourches, (such as the firing tables) and also by the formula that even gaijin uses for other shells.
I think that, despite the “frictions” that we had in the past, you could empatize with us…for having experienced a somewhat similar situation regarding underperforming shells.

The formula is not flawed, but often requires fine tuning to account for changing variables between shell types. Gaijin has made a calculator that accounts for HE fillers and ballistic caps, which in itself solves a vast majority of issues. Granted, it does not use reference shells like some other DeMarre calculators do, but for Gaijin’s sake it’s enough.

You are making this up, which knowing you doesn’t surprise me at all honestly.

It’s 7 years that they use the De Marre formula to calculate the pen of every shell in game, outside of sabots, without any “fine tuning”, they don’t even adjust it for different K coefficients, why they decide now to use a different coefficient just for the Roma shell?

Also I know someone gotta explain this to you, but the art of measuring how much a shell penetrates isn’t an exact one that can be replicated every time under any condition, and so the manufacturer and the Regia Marina penetrating tables decisively underestimate the penetration and instead report a sort of “certain penetration” instead. And again, as other already pointed out, the fact that you find it implausible doesn’t really matter, lol.

Btw It should be mentioned that the only changes they have applied are for HE and SAP shell. The formula was never touched a single time for AP and derivates.

Yeah, I was just mildly confused about a ship I wasn’t an expert of. I wasn’t expecting, but should have, such backlash and hostility over finding something understandably difficult to process (gladfully some of the worst bits were cleaned up).

Hello!

Of course, I’m always for as many fixes and as much realism as accuracy as possible for everything ingame.

As I said, I also knew and expected Roma’s 381s to have the highest pen of all 381s; I could even imagine it being underperforming to some degree as per yesterday’s dev build. I expected even values as high as mid-800s.

EDIT: which brings me to realise that there was a misunderstanding on my part; I read the 0m value as 1,000m value; so I naturally thought that value was too high! But no, it’s perfectly fine and reasonable, nevermind my confusion.

The formula is bound to have flaws. It is calculated based on a certain design of shells. However, in the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States and Japan, each country has different shell designs and manufacturing processes, which leads to these shells having different characteristics from different angles. For example, German shells have better performance at smaller angles, Japanese shells will be damaged after more than 30 degrees, and British and American shells can explode effectively under more extreme conditions.
When using the formula, it is necessary to introduce target shooting data for correction in order to effectively ensure the accuracy of the results.
For instance, in the DEV server, the performance of the MK8MOD6 at 9000m at 35 degrees might be 82mm lower than the actual value.

You know War Thunder doesn’t account for any of this, right?

GAIJIN did not introduce any corrections. They roughly used a simplified formula and were even using the full-caliber AP curve from about ten years ago. This has caused all the problems we are facing now. Including the magical USSR shells.

All shells for new bb’s are modelled after De marre formula in game.

before you changed it, bismarck got crippled by a biplane that was already outdated BEFORE WW2.
her “last stand” was being annihilated by the royal navy.

Literally the Bismarck:
Best ship in the German fleet
Sunk by biplanes on the first mission after a single naval shoot-down

The Roma flew several more missions than the Bismarck.

Still a more memorable fate than being scrapped.

Also, when people change a comment barely 20 seconds after posting it, there’s probably a reason for it xD.

All of this is off-topic anyway. It is clear that Italian players are particularly passionate about their stuff, I already got the idea xD.

Anyway. Hope you get the 900mm pen reload.

Specially since I just came to realise that there was a misunderstanding on my part; I read the 0m value as 1,000m value; so I naturally thought that value was too high! But no, it’s perfectly fine and reasonable, nevermind my confusion.

Sorry, we are talking about the game data or the history of ships?
Because the topic was started for the game, not the birth and destruction of honourable ships, it is confusing that we are talking about real-life things, meanwhile in game is another thing

I think is better to get on the topic, because from what I see all of the datamined stuff inflicts various changes for the ships mentioned
