Dev Server Feedback Update - Heavy Cavalry

No one seems to get it right when it come about next-generation missiles, such as the AIM-9X, Iris-T and MICA-IR, these missiles can withstand enough G-forces and AoA to end any dogfight. The next generation of IR missiles will finally force players to use positioning, because dogfights are a death sentence.

Yeah just look at dcs with the 9x there. Instant violation of the aircrafts structural integrity if a 9x is fired, 90% of the time.

If the ECM from earlier on in the B-52 event was any indication, I think they’ll initially use the current implementation (IIRC it’s a merger of the two types of IRCCMs?) and work on it later.

Either we all eat, or nobody does.

Artificially holding back Eurofighters and Rafales (you can throw the Su-30SM2 in there too) after they’re already in-game makes about as much sense as telling everyone else they should have waited for equivalent aircraft before getting MRAAMs, IRCCM missiles, ESA radars or any other capability advantage.

If we accept the logic that Eurofighters and Rafales should be held back until 5th gens arrive because they’re currently better at dictating engagements (a highly subjective claim in itself…), then where does that stop? Do we tell the F-35, Su-57 and J-20 they can’t have their stealth characteristics until 6th generation aircraft arrive?

If new technology is ready to enter the game, it should enter the game. The solution isn’t to permanently handicap a handful of aircraft until everyone else catches up.

That means whe can get the AIM-260

? Obviously lol

Just one… slight problem. We know next to nothing about it. The best we can hope for (for now) is AIM-120D-3 or AIM-174B for USA

I guess that would work along with the F-22

Well, su57 is roughly as stealthy as a Rafale, they are both reduced cross section fighters. Not stealth. Well the russians claim the su57 is stealth…

And even if it were stealth… it doesn’t matter the top tier in War Thunder is all about AESA radars on 100km x 100km maps they can detect any stealth aircraft as soon as it spawns . No aircraft is invisible they never have been they are just difficult to detect

The problem is the player base, not the equipment. We’ve been using the Fox-3 for two years now, and there are still players who don’t know how to perform a notch, or how to dodge an R-73, Magic 2 or AIM-9M

it’s left out in sim on purpose, read the article about the mechanic

Hey! Now that there are multiple Fox-3 premiums can the Netz (mod) get its derbys like we asked for when it launched?

Yeah? Because notching is easily the most unintuitive technique in the entire game.

Flares is obvious

Chaff is obvious

Notching has never been taught in any capacity by gaijin

This as well

Neither of these guides are good, but they exist

It’s an extremely basic technique, essential since 10.7, what do you mean?

does anyone know why HARMs cannot lock onto air targets? it has been done historically so i dont understand why gaijin wont let us do it

Will that be before or after the promised Leopard 2 DM rework.
Sadly that statement by gajin doesnt mean much

Have you considered giving France something else than F16s? France has literally more F16s than USA does…
Which is ridiculous and just lazy.

But it’s not intuitive is what he’s saying. You don’t just ‘know’ even the basic part of ‘turn the plane 90 degrees, and the missile will maybe lose track of you’. You can fly straight and a flare will throw off a missile in cases, dodging SARH and ARH takes more knowledge the game itself does not provide, and that you may not just pick up from when one misses you.

This goes double for us Arcade players. Mostly in that ‘notching’ is nowhere near as effective in Arcade as it is RB/SB. Even after watching guides and doing everything they said, most of the time I still took a missile to the face. I had better luck at least against SARH missiles by essentially timing a roll at the last second with chaff going to send the missile above/below my plane and hoping the proxy doesn’t trigger or with ARH literally shooting them down with guns. It wasn’t till Nuclear Thunder exposed me to RB rules where not only did I see the difference in how radar works because of ground clutter (AB does not have ground clutter modeled to help full radars and missiles) but all of a sudden using the same techniques that failed me in Air AB suddenly it was like no missile could hit me so long as I knew it was coming for me, other than certain AI ones.

The game, as it is, does a poor job instructing players as it is on how to do a lot of things, especially at higher tiers and when new mechanics have been added. It’s even worse at highlighting differences between how things function in game modes and how that might impact how something, like notching, might work, or not.

Because you don’t do what they tell you to

It makes no difference either, modern radars are not affected by ground clutter, nor are modern Fox-3 missiles affected by ground clutter

The game shouldn’t have to babysit you, players need to be willing to learn, not blame the game and assume it’s always at fault, leading to poor play. That’s the only way to improve and learn. With the right positioning, you literally have a near-100% chance of dodging the missiles.

It’s not just a maybe, you’re actually going to dodge the missiles, if you do right

Thats actually true. Stealth only works for certain ranges.
