Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

not my problem here,… missile isn’t accurately modeled is.

how. the missile would have to be going at like 3800 m/s or like mach 11 to reach 18 km in 4.75ish secs. that just makes 0 sense

the missile will not reach 18km in 4.75 seconds

that would mean it travels 18000/4.75 m/s = 3789.47 m/s or 1.36421 x 10^4 Km/h

which wouldnt even make sense if it was launched at mach 2

Mach 4 - 360*4 = 1440 m/s - then you have energy retention

Similar to How MICA VL is given for 50G up to 7km, with a speed of Mach3.

the air-launched MICA-EM is taking Mach 4, from an already Mach 1-1.3 aircraft, and doesn’t need to set himself from Vertical to Horizontal trajectory.

it’s literally impossible for the missile to reach 18 km in around 5ish seconds. i mean unless youre talking about that distance relative to another plane going at like mach 2 towards you at the same time.are you talking about ground distance?
here’s where the 4.75ish secs come from

yet you told us that MICA-VL still makes 50G at 7km.

7km is a lot less distance than the 18km you posted. napkin math makes the 18km just absurd

7km =/= 18km

Just to make it clear, they both go hand in hand. A missile requires some airspeed in order to maneuver.

@kizvy
7km is for VL, with PEAK speed of Mach 3
18km is for HL, with PEAK speed of Mach 4

EDit: to repharse,… since i wasn’t understood 1st time
“PEAK” replaces “starting”

Starting speed of Mach 4??? What aircraft will have a starting speed of Mach 4

Custom mission was used where the Rafale was suspended in mid-air.

come - on ,… you understand what i mean

please show me a fighter jet that travels at mach 4

and please show me a vertical launched missiles that has a starting speed of mach 3

You have to say that the 18 km is relative to another fighter going at Mach 2 towards you. You’re not measuring ground distance in that case

wouldnt it need to be angeled at 90°?

becasue the images of the Mica VL i could find all seem to be launched at 90° (or close to 90°)

Ideally yes, now that the MICA can be fired outside of its gimbal limits then the radar’s 70 degrees would be as close as it gets until MICA VL gets added. The point of the testing was that some testing was done even if it’s not perfect with the tools we have. The developers have the tools to properly launch the missile and conduct the testing at 90 degrees and can reference sources to better tune the missiles.

couldn’t we set MICA-EM Missile into a Tor-M1 within Custom?
as i understand you lack radar going 90° off the missile sight.
but Tor-M1 would be able to give us that.

we would have to make Tor-M1 (F Band) to match radar band of MICA-EM (I band)

Well, I haven’t done that and not aware of any freely available Tor-M1 custom out there. What we know though is that even with the rudimentary testing, the MICA EM is underperforming in kinematics.
