Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

I’ve gotten smin to nudge some of the 9M reports but the issue is their seemingly selective actioning of certain reports. Some I get might be more complicated. Like 9Ms push ahead functionality. But others like 9M lock ranges or SRAAMs actual range which has been reported the better part of 3 years ago for both, still not being fixed is just frustrating.

Some reports get fixed within a week (or even like a brimstone report not long ago, within a few hours) but others sit for years without reason or explanation.

Gate width getting buffs is fine, but when 9Ms can barely be called all-aspect due to lock range issues that were widely brought up back when the Gripen was added still hasn’t been fixed it’s just infuriating

To be fair, you gotta be careful what you ask for. Most IR missiles at top tier are underperforming in seeker range. Magic 2 has its lock range reported too. I would expect a seeker range increase would not just apply to AIM-9M but would be applied universally to top tier missiles and the big winners would be missiles such as R-27ET that can properly use that lock ranges.

Perhaps, but given magic II is actually usable in a WVR fight and 9M is closer in usage to an R27ET than a magic II. It would be nice to actually use them at longer ranges. Especially with the smokeless motor.

I could def see an increase in lock ranges in sim being useful for AIM-9M (in comparison to other missiles getting the same changes).

I would also like the missile diamond removed from the smokeless missiles…
What an advantage it is when you see a diamond while it burns in most cases the missile is visible for the whole flight.

wrong r-74 is in service rn

Ah I didnt realise it was in service yet, based on what I can find it only improved the gimble limit of the seeker?

There are no mentions of improved IRCCM or improved TVC for the missile?

i would guess that they imrpoved the seeker/ irccm in someway compared to the initial design from the 80’s

the change only affects pre-flaring lets not forget that
and the 27et is barely if ever pre-flared because most of the time it gets launched from far enough away so you dont notice it being shot at you

We’ll have to see by how much, given that pre-flaring is the main defence against short range r73/magic II, if pre-flaring is no longer effective that Is a major buff

sure but it wouldnt really change anything for the r27et as it is mostly fired in conditions where the enemy isnt aware

Oh yeah, that should be largely unaffected. Unless it now becomes a powerhouse short range weapon with this change given its speed

And R-27T/ET doesn’t have as tight of a gatewidth as other missiles … (1.33 deg vs 0.75)

like i said it wont change anything for the ET

Unless the engine of AIM-9M is severly lacking in game it has nowhere near the effective range of an ET.
Even the bas T variant should be superior.

The size of the motor would tell you that…R-27s are huge
IRL 9M has a head on range of 18km)…
In game you cannot lock more than 3km away.

Thats the issue here

You can perhaps lock on at that range.
The kinematic performance is a different matter.
A slightly improved seeker performance on R-73, R-27T/ET as well as Magic 2 does not equate to the same capability as ASRAAM.

Iam pretty sure that a 9m has enough energy to hit a target further out than 3km in a head-on

He was mentioning 18 Km lock ranges.

It is not inefficient per say the missile simply wont be fooled as easily.
