We have no clue what the FoV of the seeker is, only the gimbal limits of the seeker. We know it should be able to have an FoV large enough to compensate for a difference of atleast 300m in coordinate discrepancy. For in-game purposes, that is sufficiently more than enough.

Using the calculator I linked above, that is 11° but I would assume its probably more like 15° which is about 400m x 400m area.

So if the target moves more than 300-400m then it will be outside of the FoV. So yes, in game this is likely enough for a stationary target.

Question still remains though, what does it do if the target is actively moving within that area. Can it still hit the moving target?

Also, does this class as LOAL and therefore fall outside of their current rules on LOAL?

So what thread is best suited for discussions for AASM? I dont see a “French weapon systems” thread?

Right now we’re forced to fire AASM-IR at 10km or less. A realistic implementation would mean that we would be able to fire salvos of AASM-IR towards enemy spawn points at ranges greater than 50km which would then be able to compensate for tanks that have since moved after launch and can recognize tanks. I don’t think that would be a nerf at all, if anything would make it much stronger.

Let’s see PIRATE’s ranging mechanics removed until the developers decide to introduce kinematic ranging (even if it would still be useless lmao) :P

PIRATE doesnt have any form of ranging in game currently, they are ignoring the multiple primary sources for it

Rafale uses AASM, so it’s worth discussing here.

Unless sources are presented that it cannot track moving targets, it should be assumed it can. People that have been assuming it cannot track moving targets have also been assuming it could not track tanks at all. I would assume implementing all of this would mean LOAL so maybe it would not be implemented for a long while.

So I think the Burden of proof should be on whether it can do it, not proving it cannot

Again, multiple sources state it can track targets. I now posted proof that “targets” includes tanks. It can track tanks. Anything beyond that requires mental gymnastics.

Your latest source just says it can update its impact point if the target has moved and that includes tank.

Not only does it clearly state that it will just hit any tank within the area (friend or foe, dead or alive, let alone what it would do if there were multiple tanks within the area) but how its worded could be interpretted as it only updates once. So if the target continues to be move, then it wont update again and will miss.

It can search targets within a 2km x 2km area. So a FOV of ~67° using some trigonometry and the fact the seeker turns on at an altitude of 1.5km.

AASM IR is supposed to recognize targets as either buildings or main battle tanks. Dead tanks that are sufficiently deformed such as missing a turret (Russian tanks moment), would not be recognizable as a main battle tank. So for game purposes corpses would not count.

While the earlier sources stated that they had “not yet” been able to have the AASM-IR differentiate between different types of tanks, later sources state the AASM-IR has identification/recognition capabilities which implies this issue was fixed, so AASM-IR should not attack teammates. Although you could see Leopard 2s on the same teams, but we already have IFF differentiating teammates/enemies even if the same vehicles are on both teams so I don’t see why we couldn’t allow for AASM-IR to ignore teammates.

Well… Good luck arguing that with Gaijin, we tried and failed with a certain other AGM that uses LOAL.
