Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

This would be snazzy. Though I’ve little hope we’ll see it in a reasonable time frame.

Technically, the use of cruise missiles in the game would be roughly the same as the Gromm2 used by the Russians. The only two differences would be the range, which would be greater, and the terminal guidance (which Gaijin can modify to be GPS only). Other than that, the explosive charge is slightly larger for the SCALP, but is compensated by the larger number of Gromms on the Russian planes.

Well British flight test documents can be misleading compared to rest of the world (in that they always go for conservative figures that emphasize preservation of airframes etc). I can remember at least two (might not be directly comparable to the context of the Rafale though), the Fw-190 rollrate chart that has the data gathered from a sample with damaged aileron/controls and British vs American Canberra flightbook speeds

Tbh, i agree with 50km range limitation for now, but drag MUST be reduced

Rafale B, C & M (F2 ~ F4.2) armed SCALP-EG

but Rafale F5 integrate FMC (Future Cruise Missile)

We would expect Grom 1 before SCALP, I would wager.

We need Exocet for those ships on Danemark map in sim

The Gromm 1 would be an equivalent of the SCALP in game, IRL the SCALP is much more powerful due to its greater range and guidance but in game it would bring absolutely nothing more.

But yes, I would bet like you on the arrival of the Gromm1 before the SCALP, I even suppose that it could be one of the weapons to be introduced to combat advanced surface-to-air systems once they are added to the game

Is 50km thr maximum travel distance or maximum launch range?

Max range in game is maximum range for any missile.

That’s why the R-77 is advertized as 80km and doesn’t reach more than 60km in game.

Because the 80km is for a launch from 12km to a target flying under 2000m

And thus, MICA-EM should be allowed to reach max of 80km, and still works as it should today,… the fact that Missile isn’t allowed to go past the 50km make it explode automatically at 50.6km

in theory but in modern systems the false alarm rate is low

Travel distance, MICA self-exploded after 50.6 km, even if only 50 seconds have passed (with 70 seconds battery life)

Depends who you ask I guess.

Are we gonna ask eurofighter or a keyboard general
this also applies to rafale

travel distance

It has a 70s battery life, which means it will explode before reaching that range at low altitude. It is also range limited in game, which means a self axploding mechanism is triggered once it reaches 50km, even if the battery is still alive (only possible at very high altitudes)

That makes a lot more sense now.

What you are saying is…

The misisle will self destruct after 70 seconds or 50km travel distance from the launch point.
Whichever is sooner.

The latter is very dumb indeed as there absolutely can be situations where the missile retains enough kinematic energy at high altitudes, and has absolutely nothing stopping it, but just explodes 50km from the launch point for no reason.

While it may be theoretically possible to hit a target from 80km if it is traveling at mach 2.25 at 12,000m, as the target will travel >30km in 50 seconds, not allowing the missile to make full use of the battery is an ignorant decision.

Pilots have said this. I can of course not validate such statements.

exactly

Regarding the travel distance, the taiwanese managed to make one travel 67km. We have no idea what kind it was (IR or EM) though, but the target was a drone. While it isn’t a very hard target to hit, it means the missile should at least travel 67km.

Don’t get me wrong though, the Rafale isn’t in a bad spot right now, the buff can wait a bit imo

I saw people talk about MAWS systems earlier and just for you guys information
Radar maw and ir maw usually work together because of sensor fusion
Both system exchanges information in order to help the pilot defend against the threat
The MAWS system on the rafale especially is extremely advanced compared to its competitors
The full SPECTRA integrated electronic warfare suite provides long-range detection, identification and accurate localisation of infrared homing, radio frequency and laser threats. The system incorporates radar warning, laser warning and missile approach warning for threat detection plus a phased array radar jammer and a decoy dispenser for threat countering. (Wikipedia)

British documents for British airframes often are.
Rafale is not British or in British service
