Cyclotol in game
The Cyclotol charge is about 287 grams from what I’m reading with a tnt equivalent of 1.26 of TNT. Multiply that by 202 bomblets and you have 73kg tnt equivalent of explosives per CBU
Edit: I wonder if gaijin just doesn’t model explosive charges on bases below a certain threshold. You can’t shoot a bunch of he shells at bases either and do damage with cannons.
Edit 2: You currently need 25000 base damage to destroy a base in high tier. If you do 23500 it will bleed the remaining amount and kill a base however. I’m not sure how much tnt is needed for that. I know 5000 lbs of gbu bombs will do it.
well that so bs so there useless then
I did some math and each cbu-87 with 202 bomblets dropping on a base should be doing 1265 damage roughly. To kill a base you would need 19 if Gaijin decided to model the base damage correctly.
meanwhile the full 24 on F-15EX does naught
Ignore my previous estimate most sources says cyclotol is actually closer to 1.15 of tnt per gram. So each CBU should have 1154 base damage.
To get to the 23500 base damage number needed to finish a base you would beed 21 cbu bombs
Yeah. Doubt Gaijin are bothering with it for the sake of server performance, though. Keep CBU usage to a minimum etc. Could just be WIP though 🤷
I dont know how they determine base damage based on your previous screen shot. It doesn’t seem to be consistent.
Certainly not
Ehhh yes and no here. Remember that CBUs do damage via volume of impacts, not payload.
Remember that even stuff like the Tornado’s anti-runway dispenser submunitions only have slightly more explosive mass, yet the pod is incredibly effective at rendering airfields un-usable for extended durations.
Yes, both won’t be obliterating houses, but cluster mentions in general should be hitting objective targets quite a bit harder.
Beyond that, right now these bombs really need to have better fusing, they should only be going off between 300 to 3000 ft which they very much so aren’t, causing their dispersal patterns to be horrednus.
Same deal, if someone has the datamine on the actual stats of the bomblets and their total count that would be fantastic as it really feels like there are way less bomblets in each CBU than they should have.
…but to kill a tank you need a bomblet to hit its roof, which still is a lucky strike.
not as lucky as you would think
when set for lower spread, it will average a bomblet per 2 square meters, with it biased towards the center
and thats for a single bomb
even with it set for maximum spread dropping 24 of them (the number carried by F-15E) has a better than even chance of hitting the roof of any tank in the area (which would be a significant portion of a GRB map), even discounting them being biased towards the center
They need to add a setting to set the release altitude. Other than that i like them so far conceptually and hope they add more to test on monday.
We have had two very different experiences. Even dropping 8 to a howitzer/aa position, it will result in at best a single target destroyed.
Probably almost all of them.
The US CBU-87 and CBU-58s should cover a lot of US export planes including F-4s, F-16s, and F-15s. There seems to be a lack of a Rockeye cluster bomb for US Naval/Marine Corps aircraft at the moment though.
I know Japan had stockpiles of CBU-87 for their F-4s, F-15s, and F-2s, and Israel has used CBU-58 on theirs Phantoms at least.
France’s BL-66 should cover a number of French export planes, and the Soviet RBK-500s should cover a lot of Soviet export
The British BL755 was used by Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Yugoslavia, and Canada among others, on a number of their aircraft that are in the game.
China has copies of BL-755 and possibly RBK-500, but I’m not sure how they use them other than on Q-5 variants.
Swedish tree is a bit harder to pin down what might have actually been used. Other than the BK-90 stand-off dispenser on Viggen and Gripen which I don’t think is in at the moment.
Norwegian F-16, F-5 and Saab 105 demonstrate technical compatibility with BL755. Finland state they’ve never used cluster bombs.
Gripen should be able to carry CBU’s too because of NATO compatibility stuff too I think.
True but the problem with a lot of modern aircraft is that countries that use them signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions to stop using cluster bombs and destroy their stockpiles, before many of those weapons were cleared for service on modern planes.
For example, Italy did a fit check with BL-755 on the Eurofighter DA3 development aircraft

But it’s never actually been integrated on Eurofighter for operational use, and Britain, Germany and Italy no longer use the bomb because of the international agreement not to use them.
I do hope they dont just make this a higher br thing only. There are plenty of vietnam era aircraft that can get them, not to mention ww2 era stuff like PTABs and such.
To be fair, we also have airplane fuel tanks but those aren’t able to be detonated as done irl.
