Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

Why would that matter?

Nuclear bomb so you end up dead either way and I don’t have to look at your messages anymore

If comparing relative sized warheads or proportional distances for the relative size of the warhead, then the type of shrapnel or maybe a directional charge would make a missile more effective than a bomb?

Ok I figured it out. Compared to the 23% fire chance on dev, Live has a 100% chance of the fuel tank simply exploding

a little less damage and it’s a coin toss between fire or explosion

I mean, if we are talking directional charge, I would just stand in the opposite direction, duh

I think the point is that, when talking about explosive forces, distance matters a lot. That’s something that ground players should have a lot of experience with lmao

I suppose the next question is. What figure would actually be reasonable?

Considering reasonable performance of self-sealing and the fact that fuel isnt necessarily that combustible in liquid form

True. Though not all explosions are made equal either :P

(just look at Rapier)

Live’s number is completely reasonable. For that kind of damage we’re talking a 75mm HE hit directly to the fuel tank. I don’t think any fuel tank would ever survive that.

Ah… 75mm HE, yeah that is fair. I thought it was a small calibre.

Yeah this whole time me and @PercussionCap have been talking about the damage of ~75mm HE rounds.

Again, blast effect of a direct hit with a round that has 600 grams of TNT equivalent is not enough to reach even a 50% chance of a leak. It’s roughly 31% without counting shrapnel damage (and a standalone leak is pretty much meaningless given min fuel on heavy bombers is actual hours, you’re effectively just helping them get rid of weight).

I dont think that round is ingame, it should be though, thats sick

I believe the new SAPHEI shell they are adding for Mk 108s is modelled after that specific shell

Oh they are adding it? 'ery noice, about time the mk108 got some new toys. Anyway, ive arrived home, lets get to work on that guncam footage

It indeed is in game.

It is not, it’s a “Minen-Panzergranate” round which only about a 1000 were made.

Seen here courtesy of GhostMaxi (this one is tracerless but there’s a tracer version).

Honestly, I don’t even really care to repeat things over and over again. These people just want the game to be noob friendly. The current state is once again unrealistic because a Mk.108 could not chop a B-17’s wing off from the rear this fast IRL. We have video footage of a BF110 proving that.

The entire reason missiles like the AIM-4 were direct-contact was that the US was worried a proximity fuse wouldn’t do enough damage to bombers.

It’s not one of those, it has a different icon with yellow and red projectile color stripes.

Yes, because that’s the new addition which I showed.

However the actual incendiary round, which he was talking about, is already in the game.

There isnt a single mk108 round with 140g of filler tho, the highest is 85g with 100g tnt equiv

Gaijin doesn’t model incendiary filler in rounds. You can see this in every single AP-I round where there’s no filler value. They only model explosive filler.

PS: one exception, Hispano SAP-I. They gave it explosive filler but made the TNT equivalent absolutely tiny because in real life it’s an incendiary compound, not explosive.

PPS: Besides I haven’t actually checked if that 140 grams of filler claim is accurate.

Ah, that would do it
