Censored Haukenkruz (Decal and/or Replacement)

I don’t think this suggestion is coming from a bad place but I’m sure you can figure out how easy it would be for bad actors to slap Swastikas on everything with this. So I can’t really support it in good faith.

The only way I can see this even being added is at best shoved behind an enabled option where it doesn’t show at all. It would be a good compromise however I also agree, can’t support it either. Even as a person who loves history.

I understand that this is a topic which can never truly be solved one way or the other, I just wanted to put my opinion out there. At the end of the day, it is up to the devs to decide how to handle it.

Hakenkreuz not Haukenkruz

I should also put the reminder that this suggestion is just about replacing one style of censoring for another, the thesis of the suggestion is “this style of censored swastika is better than the ones in-game”. I disagreed, and offered my reasoning why (which funnily enough is the same as OP’s, “this style looks better”).

As we’ve all totally read the terms and conditions of this forum:

2.11. No politics

It took us 4 replies until the discussion became political lmao. It’s not even about “swastika censorship”, it’s just political talk like you see on Reddit (and I’m sure no one here wants to be a Redditor).

Agreed.

I think they should be historically accurate for each skin with a global toggle to have them on or off, with them off as standard and the setting to turn them on being buried behind a verified account setting with an age verification.

Mamma mia, are we really making such a big deal over a symbol like this? In the last century, every nation suffered because of symbols — every single one. And why? Because of a world war that caused millions of deaths. We all know, more or less, what happened, so there’s no need to explain who committed atrocities — it’s clear enough. But are we truly okay with allowing some symbols while banning others? I repeat: all symbols have been associated with hatred — all of them. Therefore, wouldn’t the most fair and objective solution be to introduce a game mechanic that allows players to censor any symbol they personally find offensive? No politics here — just objectivity and HISTORY.

Naw id rather not have them then this cuck crap. At least in america I can go to museums and not see this awful stuff. I just put the modern cross there on my planes, looks OK and im not constantly reminded im playing a game made by europeons that outlawed a symbol.

Id love to see them baked into ww2 era stuff, I DONT want to see swastikas painted on modern equipment.

I think Enlisted has a more reasonable approach.

They let players choose whether to enable a censorship mode, where all realistic vehicle markings are replaced with abstract geometric shapes. I think War Thunder could consider adding something similar like removing national flags and even changing country names to just the first letter of their English name.

Honestly, I think this is much better than enforcing partial censorship. War has never been about just one country’s wrongdoing. History isn’t black and white, yet it often feels like only certain symbols get special treatment, while others are ignored. That kind of selective attention feels a bit unfair.

For example, if a World War II vehicle has markings symbolizing the invasion of another country, shouldn’t that be restricted too? And what about some of the wars that are still happening today?

In my own country which some people refer to as a “region” there was once a large scale crackdown. However, even after the government changed, the symbols of the former regime were not banned or censored.

Meanwhile, right next to us is a certain major Eastern power, and in their country, most of our local symbols are subject to censorship. For example, in Enlisted, the version available in their country is heavily censored or harmonized.

Even though our place was once ruled by a northern country, people here have different views about that period. Some see it positively, some negatively and that is okay. The world should not be forced to have just one voice.

As for me, I believe history should be remembered honestly. It is fine to commemorate the past, but not to distort it especially not in the way some modern extremist groups in Europe try to revive or misuse symbols and ideologies of a certain regime that starts WWII. That kind of distortion is dangerous, not historical reflection.

Everyone has the right to express their views and choose what to believe as long as it does not seriously harm others like harassment or unreasonable forms of protest.

Why add a censored decal?

During gameplay, I’ve encountered many people who don’t know how to properly use historically accurate decals or vehicle markings. Some even put markings on vehicles that were never used by those countries. Although it makes me feel uncomfortable, I just have to silently accept it. I’m someone who places decals according to historical accuracy.

I try to but there isn’t enough decals in game, and the descriptions for some aren’t really telling. Would be nice if we had more digits, and emblems and descriptions on to what units/vehicles used them.

I mean the idea is better than nothing, but the best thing would be to add the actual symbol

Because it looks more like the real life one otherwise, it’s no different from “Modern Army”.

Aircraft decals are harder to find, but for tanks, I usually use vehicle markings unless the vehicle only has a single marking on each side. For German vehicles like that, I’ll add a default three digit number. I have my own method for doing this.

Should be done properly or not at all.

I would say yes but with an option between censored and uncensored, I understand people feel uncomfortable with it so if you don’t want to see it you can enable the censorship (which is universal, ie every other player with that decal you’ll see the censored/uncensored version depending on your preference), and the same with camoflages which are censored

also have the censorship enabled by default/locked for certain countries with restrictions :)
