Can anyone tell me if this Swiss JAS-39E Gripen is real?

Do y’all think a Swiss JAS-39 would be a good event vehicle?

Photo shoted?

The gripen c was actively trialed as an replacement option, which is more likely then the gripen e

It didn’t exist, so no. On top of that, Switzerland doesn’t even have a Subtree anywhere (yet) so there’s no place for it to go anyway.

Gets told Swiss Gripen didn’t exist
“hey guys, should they add Swiss Gripen as event vehicle?”

No, it was always the E that was intended as the replacement for the Tiger II. At the time evaluation began however, only C airframes and C’s with adaptations leading to E were airworthy though. This was one of the reason the Gripen had such a hard stand in the view of the Swiss voting population, as left media kept repeating the Gripen E is just a paper plane, carefully ommitting each of the milestones of the very successful and in-time development and testing of the Gripen E at the same time Switzerland prepared for the vote.

Stil a very emmotional topic for me. We fought hard, and failed. That was a sad sad 18th of May. I remember it vividly, even though it’s already ten years ago…

switzerland still trialed the gripen c already during that time period and the pilots were actively trained on the gripen c for over a year Schweiz - Gripen: Drei Schweizer Piloten trainieren in Schweden - News - SRF

Yes the pilots trained on Gripen C’s, but the C’s were never intended as the new fighter plane, is what I was trying to say.

Btw had the chance to get to know both the project leader as well as the chief test pilot who was in Sweden for those trials. Had some very interesting talks with them. Too bad their voices were not properly heard by the public…

Well, would even be more reasonable to give the US the Hunter Mk.58

I clicked that link and it took me to key West Florida 😂

Look carefully at the aircraft sitting across from the hornets, between the E-2s and F-5s.

Where do you see any of those things

Switzerland has never purchased a Saab JAS 39 Gripen “E” modification, but in 2019/20, the aircraft were leased to become familiar with the application of the Swiss markings. If you’re wondering if they could appear in some form, yes, as Italian F-16As and Hungarian JAS 39 Gripens have also been leased

So a nation that isn’t in the game borrowed some c models for a bit to see if they wanted e models, but decided against it and never got any e models?

Sweden tried to sell JAS-39 to Switzerland twice. In 2014, the “C” version, and in 2019/20, the “E” version. In the first case, I don’t know about renting or testing, but I heard about the second, that they were rented, given Swiss numbers, but the testing never took place.

In case anyone didn’t know, this photo is photoshopped, the real one should at least be in the Swiss archive (Although I use it for reference in my aviation list):

No, there were never any Gripens leased to Switzerland, and no national markings applied to real aircraft. Some Swiss pilots spent quite some time in Sweden during final development of the Gripen E, ending with the public vote that sent the whole Swiss Gripen program down the drain.
