About that, we can’t be sure at 100%. It can be possible that some was mounted, but a lot of documentations is missing sadly for us.

That’s going to be the main use. Don’t think someone is going to fire a 45mm HE round at some targets, probably with a muzzle velocity of 100m/s or less.
The smoke rounds are definitely the main thing you’d get out of this. But it would be great fun to snipe open-top vehicles with the HE-round, just for the giggles.

It could but realistically it’s not going to be. Gaijin might not even add HE, almost all Rank 1 vehicles don’t get HE rounds.
An LMG would be much more effective in taking out a truck then the 45mm Mortar.
Realistically speaking, some L3 tanks mounted additional light machine guns (Fiat 14/35, Bren).
