And will it also show what weapon is currently selected
Definetly a bit buggy the FRS1 HUD. Bomb CCIP and CCRP symbology are inconsistant in wanting to appear
Doesn’t even have a gun sight yet. Nor missile lock symbols but its a good start.
Harriers are still lacking thrust lol.
Yeah, did note the lack of IR symbology that was one of the big 3 its missing for A2A combat. But overall implies its still massive WIP
Yes but they took the time to develop it and its day 1 I have faith they will correct it and I will see what I can do about the flight performance.
I sure you have seen that it is quite a massive performance gain. Insane accelerations and little lose in speed while turning. Its like a faster, smaller, lighter, and more advanced hunter.
This thing is dangerous lmao.
Was playing in the Sea Harrier FRS.1 yesterday and I got in a dogfight with an
F-5C and the performance increase is insane. Into the dogfight I went with 2 missiles left, 4 minutes or so of fuel, nozzles down 35% and I was able to out turn him, now I don’t know if this was due to poor flying on his part but I was able to get guns on him a few times missed twice (skill issue) but getting him on the 3rd turn when he was quite slow
Nah the Sea Harrier is insane below 15,000 feet. It’s hard for planes like the F-5 to keep up due to its thrust.
I was able to beat a mirage F-1 yesterday near sea level in a turn fight.
He did run away and I chased him up to 20,000 feet bc I was testing climb (I was able to climb with him)
But up there you’re going to lose.
It’s the Yak 3 of jets.
I agree, I can now see why the Shar was so feared in a dogfight by Argies and pilots of other aircraft (e.g. F-5, F-15). And I also love how you can almost always outturn and if they try running away after a dogfight then you throw a Lima up the ass
Yes its energy retention is really good and the flaps help a lot with tightening up the turns.
The only issue with the flaps is that they create a lot more drag they they should be making. This makes using them not as viable in sustained turns.
If you can quickly get rid of the threat by out turning them in 5 or less turns then it’s fine and if you get too slow then you can do a trick which I learnt with the Harriers a year after they came out (it might not be as viable as it used to be). In a dogfight when you’re trying to out turn an evenly matched opponent, get slow and start hovering inside the centre of your opponent’s turning circle, this is very good as you can fire a missile at them if they run and you can even get your guns on them and gun them down, if these don’t work then they’ll lose too much energy and have try and and get speed and lift, or they just crash.
This used to work well in the Harrier GR.1 when the SRAAM still worked (I think they broke it in 2023)
You can do that but it makes you an easy kill for someone else.
That would be a VIFF maneuver but unfortunately VIFF is not modeled on the harriers.
IRL they could use the nozzles to generate a lot of AOA like the SUs can.
It would be like a really small tight turn that would lead to a lot of speed lose.
The AV-8B tactical manual states that the Harrier can hit 45 degrees AOA at .4 Mach with 60 degree nozzles. In war thunder the max you can get is 24
I there is the problem of being an easy target to 3rd parties but that is with all dogfight pretty much
True but if harriers could VIFF you could end dogfights so much faster.
I 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% agree but I’m just telling something I learnt that helped me in dogfights and use the SRAAM in a perfect environment
Yes flaps and 40-50% nozzles makes turning small
I have once nearly pulled of the brake-check barrel roll tactic in the SHar against a Mirage. Slammed the nozzles to the braking stop, deploy the airbrake and barrel rolled and the target did fly past at which point, my HOTAS throttle broke and I was unable to stick it back into level flight or get a shot off. Was very annoyed
But thats SB 1v1s for you, not something I would ever dare try in RB
What Hotas do you have and how much did it cost?
X-56 which I purchased second hand for £150. It was and still is an ongoing issue, but a generous amount of super glue has fixed it and its still going strong to this day. When funds become available though I do want to replace it with a new HOTAS (most likely another X-56 as the better options are several times the price) as a few of the inputs have stopped working on the throttle.
@Smin1080p_WT Are the devs aware of the buggy nature of the SHars new HUD or are bug reports required?
The sight modes dont seem to function correctly and it doesnt swap between modes properly
