Arjun MBT: India's Silver Hammer

Joke aside Britain really needs some stuff to bolster high tier. However we have a lot of domestic designs that are more interesting and better documented that deserve a spot first, Sabre, Scimitar, Scorpion (basically all the combat CVRTs) the 32pdr Centurion, Chieftain SID (the stealth tank), MBT 80 and the Challenger 2 130mm.I think Ajeya (indian T72) also deserves to come in first so it doesn’t get overshadowed by Arjun before it even gets represented

Honestly…the original Arjun Mk. 1 was rough. The concept was ahead of its time but poorly executed and took forever to implement due to bureaucracy and sourcing. The imported 1,400hp engine was not used widespread which made logistics difficult (still does), the rifled 120mm gun can’t fire anything but indigenous rounds, the German-made FCS had issues firing on the move, the layout of the vehicle made it difficult for the Loader to quickly load the gun not to mention the Loader is in charge of the external machine gun, the armor was unreliable, it was a mess. It’s came a long way though, the vehicle has gone through quite a series of modifications and that’s not including the Arjun Mk. 1A. If the vehicle had more quality and had came out around the time it was supposed to, it would’ve been a monster.

with 105mm Low Recoil Gun IWS to follow after Vickers Mk.7 ?!

seeing how effective the Merkava’s 120mm M339 is … the PCB can prove even more effective unless Gaijin decides to nerf it.

Little update, the ERA on this vehicle, Explosive Reactive Armor MK-II, is designed to withstand AMK-339 rounds which it successfully had stopped during testing. AMK-339 is the Indian designation for 3BM42 APFSDS-T round. This isn’t including all the types of other rounds it can stop. This ERA in conjunction with the NERA inserts and Kanchan composite armor will make this vehicle likely highly survivable.

India is developing a new 120mm smooth bore gun due to the extensive issues of ammunition procurement. This would allow any vehicle equipped with it to fire all NATO-standard rounds. The program is specifically focusing on the new FRCV, a program for a next-gen main battle tank but could be also fitted with the Arjun or an evolution of it.
