Amx A1A worth it for grinding Italian air?

Ah, I’m an idiot. Absolutely not.

I’d say just get the AMX and a talisman if you want a faster grind. If you NEED a premium to get there, the Ariete is great as well but takes a bit to get used to.

I have the Ariete already, I find it impossible to play due to its roll rate at high speed, is it the speed that makes the Amx suck at its br, or its opponents?

It’s a CAS plane and in air RB it gets wrecked. To slow to bomb a base and has no radar guided missiles for long range engagements. Even as a CAS in ground RB it’s pretty bad, stay away 100%.

It would be if it was 10.7 maybe 11.0 (at least in Sim) But at 11.3 does seem pretty dismall to try and use. I bought it in the sale but havent gotten round to playing it yet, at 11.3 it just doesnt seem like it would be any fun so waiting for it to drop down to a more reasonable BR

It’s probably better to buy talismans for vehicles you will like the most, I have a premium AMX, but I mainly use it in GRB. I heard that it is worth to use in simulator battles though.

Thanks, i think i could pull it of in air rb, but if worse comes to worse ill just use it in sb.

I believe, due to the best weapons you can carry, simulator air battles are the best option if you keep high altitudes and focus on bots and bases to grind.

Ariete roll rate at high speed is an issue, so when I flew it I’d try to get enemies slow to the point where the INSANE turn rate ruins them. You just have to learn to let off your turns and lull your enemies into a dogfight with a false sense of security.

The AMX does suck due to its speed, but with combat flaps it can turn like hell. I’d be getting 5-6 kill matches in it with 2 missiles, the gun is insane and its turn rate is amazing with lower fuel.

The TT AMX was unbelievable in ASB when it was still 10.3. I think my best streak was 21-0 before I died to a sea harrier.

You forgot to fear the Black Death

Either I’m not cultured or this is legitimately a racist allusion.

Argentine pilots began calling the Sea Harrier FRS1 “The Black Death” during the Falklands. The Brits kinda rolled with it and started transmitting over open comms “the black death is coming” (the last bit iirc from the Book “Harrier 809”)

Gaijin even included it in this:

Ah, that’s badass. I just call it “holy shit is that an AIM-9L??!?!?”

before the decompression it was a really good fighter now it will only see Radar Missiles which kill it. the TT variant is way better

and one of these days, the SHar might be modeled fully :P

They should have no exhaust so should be far harder to spot coming and the HUDs should display the current radar lock which will help a lot with finding targets and hitting things. Also missing EEGS as well.

But keeping on topic. AMX A-1A is barely stronger than the TT AMX or aircraft like the SHar. Probably shouldnt be 11.3

My AV-8B+ is suffering from this immensely.

Yeah, for a worse gun / BARELY better missiles, it doesn’t deserve 11.3. I’d rather take the TT AMX any time of day.

Unless it gets the MAA-1B (it won’t), it’s a big waste of time and money.

I have it to grind the Italian tree, use it in Sim exclusively, and like it very much:

  • Good base killer, easily knocking out 2 bases with its incendiary bombs per sortie.
  • Good TGP, allowing to easily use CCRP even in maps with buggy bases (Afghanistan).
  • Beautiful cockpit with very nice HUD and good RWR.
  • Piranhas are in my experience much better than their reputation.
  • Can well defend itself even against opponents like Mirage F1’s and Floggers, and tosome extent even offensively, if used smartly.
  • Flying it also in 11.7 and 12.0 rotations can be done quite well.

I’d assume in AB and RB as well as GRB it probably will indeed be subpar and overtiered, because of reasons not so relevant in Sim:

  • Not fast, others will beat you to the few bases.
  • No stand-off weapons, so iffy in GRB.

And while I like it very much, I also don’t understand at all why the Brazilian version is two BR-steps above it’s Italian tech tree variant. As far as I see it has zero practical advantages over it.

that was british propaganda, among the many during that time, Argentine pilots did respect their enemy but never used such a phrase. It does not even sound right in Argentine spanish. smh
