America needs new missiles

Russian UFO with r-73s? I mean, sure the flankers are overperforming in sustained rate at medium to high ish altitude, but even then it hardly compares to something like the rafale or eurofighter

Yes. Your AMRAAM doesn’t pull shit and then the flanker does a backflip and launches an R-73 3 km’s away. Flare everything and die.
Don’t get me wrong. I think flankers are cool and everything but when i fire my 35G AMARAAM 2 km’s away that pulls less than a sparrow, you should die.
Don’t get me started on the Rafale mains.

You do know the reason why is because early AMRAAMs had a massive tracking delay? Like, the aam4 is less gs, (32) but pulls much more than AMRAAMs close range because their tracking delay is half (.3 seconds) of the amraam tracking delay (.6 seconds). G pull is also dependant on fin aoa and speed through the air, at low speeds it wouldn’t be able to pull the fin aoa required to hit 35 gs unlike something like an r-77 that has much higher fin aoa.

Ok.

My honest reaction:

They aren’t

They are tho. Yeah. Long range. Same as the MICA can go at long and short ranges unlike the AMRAAM, but i digress.

They aren’t, still excellent missiles

Shoot at closer ranges, long range shots gives players too much time to defend!

30 KMs is a lot?? Iirc at 30 KMs the time to target of the AMRAAM was the same as the MICA’s

It is when you can just notch any missile by turning slightly.
30Km shots are fine if you are high and fast. Or if you want to pressure a player to then force them to defend and then kill them with your next shot which realistically should not be launched higher than 20km with 15km being the sweet spot.

do you know if there was a source for this tracking delay or if it was gaijin making it up?

There is, there’s either some unclassified korean documents stating this or some other source, I forgot which one they used.
Here’s the code from the game files for this.

AIM-120A/B

image
After .6 seconds after launch it will start maneuvering,

ALL OTHER MODERN FOX 3 (EXCL. MICA)

image
Basically means after .3 seconds after launch, starts to “ramp up” to overload, achieves max overload at .31 seconds, so basically .3 second delay

MICA-EM

image
.15 seconds after launch, shortest after r-73

AIM-120C-5

image
First amraam with tracking delay as other fox 3s.

Which is actually underperforming :P

im pretty sure aim7f and its copies literally have no delay

Yeah but they have no thrust vectoring so their turning radius is much bigger, plus their fin aoa is much worse than fox 3 missiles

Why?

What do you think adding this would do? What does it do better?

It’s not

Mfw this guy is trying to compare amraam in a dogfight with r73 and surprised the r73 wins (almost like one is a bvr missile and one is a dogfight missile)

So flare it and move on with your day?

So you suck?

The latest variants of 9Ms, would improve its overload from 30 → 35Gs in-game. Which is a minor improvement, but not nothing.

So it also isn’t a high priority to add…

idk about that, sometimes it feels like 7m would hit some close range shots amraam doesnt

True, but it would be easier to add than the AIM-95, which was completely skipped over and would actually be a noticeable improvement
