Add AIM-120A to the F-14D(VF-11) tech tree

So im 50% ok if it will get AIM-120A and move it to 13.7 but. The real weapon that F-14D should get could be AIM-7P , give AIM-54C,C+ all aspect seeker (becuse it digital seeker) and MK60 motor choice.

i say if u want f-14d to get aim-120s maybe give it to the premium? help make it stand out for those who bought it. dont really feel like the aim-120 should be on the f-14d in either one. especially TT.

If you want to equip the Tomcat with the AIM-120, your only option is to time-travel in a DeLorean to somehow prolong the Soviet Union’s existence and drag out the Cold War. You need to accept the reality that the Tomcat was never actually used in combat with the AIM-120. I just can’t understand why so many people keep wanting the AIM-120.

Besides, if you want to add a Tomcat equipped with the AIM-120, just use that experimental F-14A—I wouldn’t have any objections to that.

By the way, why doesn’t anybody talk about the AIM-7 buff…?

in dev server now it better so much.

Saying it’s “less of a stretch” is just personal opinion, not a historical standard.

Gaijin makes balancing exceptions for pure prototypes (like the F-16XL) strictly to fill unique gaps, but they require documented fleet deployment or VX operational clearance for frontline production aircraft like the F-14D.

If you give AMRAAMs to the F-14D based on early planned proposals, by that exact same logic you would have to give it the AGM-88 HARM, which was officially listed right alongside AMRAAM in that exact same DTIC requirements document. Breaking the standard for a production airframe completely destroys the historical consistency of the tech tree.

Having “120” listed in the SMS Type 1 decoder is just a standard placeholder for future inventory management, not proof of weapon capability.

Across virtually all modern combat aircraft, the Stores Management System (SMS) only handles station inventory, fuzing, and release/jettison circuits. It merely tells the aircraft what is physically loaded on each pylon. It does not perform radar tracking, fire control calculations, seeker initialization, or mid-course guidance.

To actually employ an active-radar missile like the AIM-120 on any 4th-generation fighter, the weapon software must be integrated into the radar processor and the Mission Computer’s Operational Flight Program (OFP). Without the radar software to calculate launch envelopes and transmit datalink commands, an SMS weapon code is completely useless.

Having a decoder entry in the docs only shows the hardware bus had pre-allocated slots to recognize the missile’s presence, it does not mean the fire control software was ever completed to guide and fire it.

I actually discussed this directly with the Heatblur development team when researching Tomcat weapon integration.

They have access to subject matter experts, former naval aviators, and primary documentation far beyond what most players or even Gaijin typically reference. Heatblur confirmed that an NF-14A did conduct separation trials using an AMRAAM motor to evaluate aerodynamic release, but the testing never progressed beyond that stage. No guided testing, STT live fires, or APG-71 datalink integration ever took place.

From what i saw in videos it will outrange the 120Aand C by a good margin and is faster past 10km range…
And you can’t roll it…! And turns better than them from the get go…
It’s not better because at least in close ranges the 120s are completely ARH, but for real BVR it would be good. Especially if you saturate some one RWR with 54s from afar.
It’s a big buff to 14, indirectly.

BTW, OP said manual but, I don’t even know how he gets F-14Ds manual that includes weapons and radar.

AFAIK, -1A manual mention that but, it is still classified because of IRST.

And yes… I have -1A manual of F-14A(IR) but, for obvious reasons, I cannot share it online.

I would rather ask for a f14A with aim95A or aim-152 Nf-14 than this especially when they can just give aim120 to the f14D. plus like document have mentioned the f14A tested it for the f14D and once the f14D became available they we’re gonna start using those for testing

Because it doesn’t change the fact that’s theirs gonna be 3 f14 at 13.0 and that one can definitely go up in br as no one likes the idea of one going down in br their no point in having 3 f-14 at 13.0

Also someone did already

Operate off of carriers

Admittedly this is basically irrelevant in the current gameplay cycle, but this is not the aircraft’s fault

Hornet guys would cry in the corner :(

As someone who does, yes, playing the Hornet does do that to you

Didn’t know the American tech tree “needed” a f16XL. I’m pretty sure they added it for a different reason. Not because we needed it…

No it doesn’t It can’t use harms because it missing the alr-67(v) 4…Harpoon I didn’t find much and don’t know what it’s missing. Other than the doc I linked above

Pretty sure it is. Also in some docs it even say add the remaining modes for amraam

Yeah I don’t know about heatblur but their plenty of evidence showing it did go further from that and that their was stt live fires

Spoiler

It’s in the regular f14D manual

Dont know what the 1a f14A(ir) manual has to do with the f14D

And it was on a test bed F-14A. Was never mounted on an actual F-14D. The remaining amraam integration was cancelled entirely.

Your own document mentions the cancellation of the program.

It’s not even talking about test f14D here it’s talking about production f14D(r)

We all know the amraam on f14D got cancelled it a well know fact

How is “earlier production F-14s” referring to the in-service F-14D and a future variant at that?

Then why are we adding amraams to an aircraft whose funding to get it integrated was literally cut?

Because they took f14A and remanufactured them into F14D(r) that’s what the (R) stands for

Because their prototypes some that didn’t even enter service with weapons they never equipped fully in game and if they allow that I don’t see why they won’t let a vehicle that did enter service and almost finished integration for AMRAAMs. Also could benefit having aim-120 since their three f14 at 13.0 one could go up in br tbh I don’t see how this would hurt anyone their still be the f14B(witch should be the f14B(u))and the premium F14D

  1. we have the yak 141 and f16XL ingame that never carried real missiles but ingame they still do

  2. the f14D would atleast be more unique then instead of being a almost exact copy of the f14B

  3. giving it aim 120s would actually balance the plane in a way at the BR racket that i can actually fight instead of having to rely solely on its aim 54s which take a long time to hit targets unlike the fakours found on the iranian f14
