If the M1 was so well protected that spall liner was deemed unnecessary then that is good news for the USA bad news for sneed.
I dont subscribe to the M1 super tank idea but one thing is true.The amount of action the M1 has seen and the amount of protection it has offered its crew is not up for debate,it has a proven track record that many European tanks can’t match because they have not been in the wars like the M1 has.It has proven itself like very few modern MBTs have.

But still according to Sneed it doesn’t have any modern protection, the Engineers didn’t figure out a new way to protect the crew which they absolutely did with their billions of funding.

Just to intervene and hopefully make you rethink about the integrated spall-liner “makes no sense” thing (i also have no comment on anything else discussed here, this is an isolated thing about specifically this).
i assume that you know that there are different types of metal and alloys but do you also know that you can make the exact same metal and/or alloy behave VASTLY differently depending on the environment it solidifies in?
The crystalline structure of a metal can be designed by adjusting speed of cooldown, pressure and changing those throughout the cooling process and even reheating during certain parts.
its actually quite easy to make a metal that isn’t brittle at all. it can behave more like clay.
so to make a metal sheet that behaves like a hard metal at face value but behaves more like clay when hit with a large force (apfsds) isn’t actually that hard. it’ll stop the spalling that is slowed down by the liner but the big round that goes through it doesn’t create more spalling from that last metal other than perhaps a few pieces or one large chunk at the tip of the round.
imagine it like this, and that is just some random metal plate not even designed for the purpose. but the spalling at the back is in a VERY narrow cone.

The issue is the secrecy for the more modern vehicle and it leaves little for the devs to work with.
Gaijin have little to prove either way, just like Sneed is speculating but in many areas we are all speculating because even those who served in the M1 debate what was really present and what was not.
Those of us who have worked in vehicles did not build them. Maintenance in the field only goes so far and many are still sworn to secrecy anyway.
Fact is the devs have to make much of it up ,the best they can do is make what is considered to a fair and balanced game which equates to the M1 mirroring what ever else in in its BR which has even less bearing on reality.Kind of best to forget reality.To contradict that though the chances of hitting that turret ring are virtually nil I would say,maybe the devs need to look at that one.
I think he expects to see WW1 type chain mail face plates and canvas sheet in there somewhere (ok he might in a chally one lol)
This had nothing to do with spall liner, 2nd no one is talking abt the chinese tanks which arent even in service so… stfu

Its clear sneed doesn’t know anything about crew training.
