Ah yes IS5
its also using an early is-2 hull, which is at 6.3 not 6.7 and has poor armor protection, why not use the is2 1944 for your example instead
also the IS-2 and even the obj 248 may have worse armor than the tiger 2 and t26e5 but they both have better guns than the t26e5 and comparable guns to the tiger 2
Because Object 248 is at 6.7, not 6.3, if you care to check it in-game. If it’s 6.7, i’ll compare it to other 6.7-7.7 tanks. t26e5 will almost always win in a 1v1 vs obj248, you can check the protection map. However, as I said before, 6.7 is not a popular BR and most likely I’ll face T29’s, which are cancer.
indeed I was wrong, the armour on the hull of the obj 248 is actually from the 5.3 IS-1, not just the 6.3 IS-2, my mistake.
the obj 248 is 6.7 because it has a very good gun and it should not be played while relying on its armour because its the same armour as a 5.3.
though to be honest if you want to play 6.7 russia use the t44, it has better armour and mobility that than the IS-2s
my point was that youre using the most armoured tanks from USA and germany and comparing them to the armour protection of the least armoured heavy tank at 6.7 in russia instead of the quite well armoured heavy tank in russia that is also at 6.7 and is far more common
its a very popular BR, but yes you will probably end up fighting t29s, theyre very fun definitely suggest trying it, and they are kinda cancer, but notably not unkillable if youre in the obj248 due to the aformentioned very good gun
Ah, Ivan Coping.
Love to see it.
Russia has plenty of competitive ability in that BR range. You’re just suffering from the Bias nonsense not being able to carry you harder. Fix yourself.
classic cope thread
To be fair, Russia is the worst of the big 3 at that BR range. USA annihilates everything, and Germany is close behind, meanwhile Russia is stuck with an overtiered Is-2 and T-44.
There is no Russian bias, and there especially isn’t any at lower BRs.
Russia’s only real issue in the mentioned BR range is their gunnery optics. Everything else for them is competitive and then some.
Gun depression is a non-issue due to the map design, and their reverse speed isn’t suffering just yet.
And if you want to keep your head in the sand about obvious bias, be my guest. That’s your burden to bear, not mine.
what is your opinion on IS-2?
Poor optics. Armor around the cheeks and mantlet overperform and often tank rounds they shouldn’t. Rest of the vehicle is acceptable and it performs fine at the BRs they’re at.
I don’t think he’s completely wrong. Another relevant factor is that the IS-2 reloads take centuries. I’m a US main, and I played through this part of the tree a very, very long time ago, but was surprised when I came back and played Soviets again where I left off on them.
The only vehicle at the tier that was really doing well for me was the Su-122-54 of all things. Some higher velocity ammo, a MUCH shorter reload, surprisingly good mobility and those lovely lovely 14.5mm machineguns. It’s the only vehicle at that BR I enthusiastically bring out for Soviet tree. Anything else I really feel is worth using is significantly higher or lower BR, like the ZSU-57-2 (7.0), the IS-3 (7.3), IS-4 (7.7)
Coincidentally, the su-122-54 also was the only bearable tank for me, although I felt like a gimp not having a turret.
Had to rush 7.0 to actually get something playable. It’s a shame rank 4 is so subpar.
with a bunch of the 8.7 getting moved up I think the 7.7s are getting down tiered more as there are less 8.7 games, the same thing happened when they moved a bunch of early cold war stuff up because it was stomping WW2 stuff, once they went up the stuff that was getting bullied started stomping everything else until it got up tiered too then you just had the original problem, with the same tanks at a different BR. Gaijin apparently learned nothing from that fiasco and is trying to do the same thing here
Ah yes that amazingly competitive 27 second reload.
You haven’t spent much time in an IS-2 have you?
Imagine that white car is an enemy tank, clearly gun depression is a non-issue.
I have this problem far more on tiger 2s and panthers than IS-2s.
Russian tanks are good, but claiming bias is nonsense, any “examples” of it can also be pointed out on other nations as well.
At this point in the past 2 weeks ive seen this same thread but for germany and ussr, idk who to believe. Who suffers the most of the big 3 in this BR range.
Given it’s massive OHK potential, you won’t fail to kill whatever you hit unless you miss or get Gaijin’d.
I’ve spent quite a bit and I consider the gun depression a non-issue as most of the maps are quite flat. Additionally, most tanks are large enough for the IS-2 to hit instead of being car-sized at that distance so that argument doesn’t work.
I’ll grant you that the Tiger l - Not the Tiger 2 - and Panther mantlets can be volumetric hell but I have that happen on a much lower frequency compared to the IS-2. Additionally, claiming Bias is nonsense in of itself is nonsense. We’ve had so much evidence over the years and things continuing to this day that make it clear Bias is alive and well. Just because you want to bash your head into the sand and pretend it doesn’t exist doesn’t make it go away. Playing ignorant to the reality of it is your burden to bear.
Cute flag abuse, btw.
What version of warthunder are you playing lmao
Dont bother with him you could show him the weakest vehicle in the game and would still claim its over powered because its russian in origin.
Just as every fantasy story has a troll under a bridge, so too does this forum, unfortunately
Why are you using the 1943 IS-2 to compare to 6.7 heavies and not the IS-2 that’s actually at 6.7?
Also, this is absolutely a skill issue as you have described the T29 as only being killable through the MG port when you can also pen its turret (frontally, couple different spots even), MG port (As you said), and the lower plate AND the side armor if you get a little glimpse at it.
