History

8cm Raketen Vielfachwerfer auf Fahrgestell Maultier is German rocket launcher system developed by German SS after their encounters with Soviet Katuysha rocket launcher systems on the eastern front. These vehicles weren’t made for the Wehrmacht and only served under the SS. In 1945 the SS-Kampfgruppe Wallenstein unit present in Prague used at least one of these vehicles to destroy the Prague Uprising, this was unsuccesful and led to capture of one of these vehicles in one of the repair shops in Prague.

Sd.Kfz. 4 “Maultier”, which was missing it’s 8 cm Raketen-Vielfachwerfer, that was captured on the 6th of May, 1945 in Vršovice by a resistance group called Trávnice. Later that day it was taken to the ETA factory where the MG 151/20 Fla SL 151 was fitted. In addition the words “ETA Revoluční Garda” (ETA Revolutionary Guard) were applied on a sign below the guns to signify the Maultier’s new allegiance. At some point, one of the guns on MG 151/20 Fla SL 151 was damaged and removed. Leading it to only mount 2 out of the 3 guns.

This rearmed Maultier was used by Czechoslovak resistance during the 7th and 8th of May 1945, where it saw combat near the Vršovice train station. At some point in time, possibly due to battle damage or malfunction, As there are no further records of it following these dates it can be assumed that it was probably scrapped after the war.

The uprising done by the Czechoslovaks had a lot more vehicles than people realize this came from over preparedness which was from the failure of the Warsaw uprising with lessons learned. There where a lot of German vehicles listed as missing parts that were not that is were the bulk of them came from. There was a lot of fear that this would backfire like the Warsaw uprising but the over preparedness plus germany being massively weakened saved the day. +1

My family has many stories from this era of WW2 as it was when everything came into play.

Hopefully we get a 1945 Prague map for infantry mode. Would be cool.

Not really. It is true that Prague Uprising learnt it's lesson from Warsaw one but there were still massive issues and the uprising was very close to being crushed if it wasn’t for the ROA forces changing sides and Czechs drawing up deal for German forces to leave the city.

Czechoslovakia did capture a lot of AFVs in Prague itself, those majorly being German but there were few field modifications such as Škoda 256G with MG 151/20 Fla SL 151 and more.

The loss of the Škoda factories was also not great for the German war effort however I don’t know how much that factored in to any strategic thinking as Germany was a mess at the time.

I won’t argue that the change in sides ROA did do something from my family stories the Germans where a bit of a mess at the time. (Most likely some bias from my family)
