History

History

The Hibneryt-3was the final and most advanced evolution of the Polish Hibneryt self-propelled anti-aircraft system. The original Hibneryt combined a Star 266M truck chassis with a twin ZU-23-2K anti-aircraft gun, providing the Polish Army with a highly mobile short-range air defense platform.

During Polish deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in the 2000s, the military gained extensive experience with improvised armored “gun trucks” used to protect convoys and bases. These operational lessons highlighted the vulnerability of existing Hibneryt vehicles and led the 3rd District Technical Workshops (3 Okręgowe Warsztaty Techniczne – 3 OWT) in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki to begin work on an armored modernization package in 2006. The project was led by Capt. Piotr Lasek and focused on increasing crew survivability while retaining the firepower and mobility of the original system.

The first result of this effort was the Hibneryt-P, unveiled at the MSPO 2007 defense exhibition. This version featured an armored cab and protected gun crew compartment mounted on a Star 266M truck. The vehicle received a special distinction at the exhibition and demonstrated the viability of an armored Hibneryt concept. Between 2007 and 2008 several vehicles were converted using armor kits developed from the project.

In 2009, work began on a more comprehensive redesign that would become the Hibneryt-3. Rather than simply adding armor to an existing vehicle, the new version was designed from the outset with crew protection as the primary requirement. The vehicle received a newly designed armored body built from armored steel rather than a standard cargo bed fitted with armor plates. The side armor was sloped to improve ballistic protection, while the underside incorporated a V-shaped hull intended to better disperse blast effects from mines and improvised explosive devices. Additional storage compartments were integrated into the armored body, and the layout was redesigned to improve functionality and protection for the crew.

The Hibneryt-3 was based on the Star 266M chassis and retained the twin ZU-23-2K anti air cannon. Compared to the earlier Hibneryt-P, the gun installation was repositioned further rearward, improving the weapon’s firing arcs and giving the crew more working space. The vehicle also featured a fully armored driver’s cab and a protected compartment for the gun crew. According to Polish sources, the completed vehicle weighed approximately 11.4 tonnes in combat configuration while retaining good mobility thanks to the powerful modernized drivetrain

I guess what, 7.0?

without the apds 6.0 but with the apds then yea 7.3+

+1 for a cool spaag

The ZU-23-2K anti-aircraft gun survived just long enough to become useful again. Might get lucky enough here and there against a jet or unlucky COIN plane but with cheap drone cruise missile things they have a use. Though they are flying higher and faster with jet engines to the point some Soviet flak cannon guns may be useful again only time will tell if someone digs up a flak 88 and rebrands it as a anti shahed drone platform. just stick it on bus and give it proxy shell (USSR made one for Vietnam gifting old gun to them FYI) and make money.

This is an spaa that we need in the tech tree for the 7.3 area

Ofc, though compared to the likes of the M163 or various 7.7s I think the exposed gunner, minimal armour, limited fire arc, wheels, and lack of search radar makes it 7.0 even with the electro-optical tracking and FAPDS
