HISTORY
The Bandvagn 202 was originally developed for the Swedish Armed Forces and was put into service by them in 1963. This vehicle was intended for the transport of soldiers and equipment, then in difficult off-road terrain. It was intended to replace aging vehicles of the same type, such as the Weasel. The BV202 is also amphibious, which increased its mobility and usability considerably.
In Norway, the BV202 was put into service in 1967 to replace the old Weasel we received after the war in connection with the weapons aid. This was an excellent vehicle for Norwegian terrain, steep and rugged, and around 1,000 of these were acquired, it was used here for the same purpose that the Swedes developed it for. It was in widespread use throughout the armed forces for many years, right up until 2002 when it was phased out. This wagon is Norwegian modified, that’s why it’s called BV202N, so it has the letter “N” for Norwegian in the name, but I haven’t figured out any specific changes yet.
After World War II, the Norwegian Armed Forces began to conduct trials and tests with a number of vehicles and weapons, among which was the well-known Unimog with SS.11 ATGM missiles which was built and tested in the mid-1950s. In connection with this attempt, when that vehicle was put aside because it had a much too high tipping point and a couple of other problems, a number of other similar tests were later carried out in the early 1970s only with the ENTAC missiles. Launchers were then mounted and integrated on each side of the BV202 vehicle, each with 2 missiles. A total of two of these were built, named D4 and D5, as you can see on the signs in the picture. They were good vehicles, and a good combination, but unfortunately the project was shelved when the survivability of the vehicle became much too low. The vehicle was used in an ENTAC platoon under Brigade Nord, I have not found the exact date, but some sources say it has been used as far as 1976, which the pictures i have added in the album folder is taken.
The vehicle can both be fired from inside and outside via remote controls, the launchers can be foldered into the rear carrier so they are shielded from the environment when not in use and quickly flipped out again when they are going to be used again. The cover over the rear part of the vehicle is made of fabric.
I am not 100% sure about the official designation of this vehicle, but like the other ATGM carriers this can be called Rakettpanserjager (Translated means Rocket/Missile tank destroyer). But as i have understood it, as this was one of the earlier tests the army did, and they all got the “Norwegian Model” designation, this is NM33 as mentioned in the book. NM33 Rakettpanserjager or Rakettutskytningsvogn.
IN GAME
This is an very cool vehicle, wit superb mobility it can reach well protected spots quite easily. However it has no armor at all, and it is like every other early manually guided ATGM’s very hard to aim, in addition its speed is only 39 Km/h. But i believe this is a strong vehicle, as if played right the missiles can be devastating, with 650mm of penetration and an range of 2km with an speed of 100 m/s and again its superb mobility. The vehicle has access to 10 missiles, 4x in the launcher and 6x stored inside the wagon, this makes the vehicle a strong contender!
