HISTORY
As a result of the previous good experiences with the Norwegian modified wagons NM116 and NM135, it was decided to also make a new PV wagon based on the M113A2. The wagon was again inspired by an American wagon, but this was judged not to be suitable for Norwegian conditions. The background for the modification was a need for more PV weapons and a recognition that sooner or later the NM116 would have to be replaced. A new tower was therefore developed by Kvaerner-Eureka which contained 2x. TOW 2 anti-tank missiles. This anti-tank missile had been in use in the defense since the 1970s, but then as ground-mounted. The solution was very successful and was put into series production, the first wagons entered service in the Panzerveskadronen in 1986 and initially ran parallel to the NM116.
After it was decided to phase out the NM116 as a result of the CFE agreement, the NM142 became the only vehicle type in the PV squadrons before 2 squadrons received the Leopard 1. In the first years, the vehicles were also used by the infantry. Some of the wagons were upgraded in the late 1990s with, among other things, a new heater, a new charging system, a new cold start system on the engine as well as a number of small modifications. The modified wagons are designated NM142F1.
This specific vehicle is an really old version of the NM142 Rakettpanserjager, and should to my understanding be a prototype/test vehicle, maybe even pre-production. This is an M113A1 Hull, witch is different in many ways compared to the later M113A2 which most of the later service NM142 are using. The vehicle’s tower, NM142, is also different. It looks like the tubes either are longer, or are just missing the square cover around them. The vehicle is also missing the MG3 which on the later models is mounted on the right hatch, in addition to the smoke grenades missing from both the vehicle and the turret.
There were two prototypes that i know of that was made of the NM142, these were both variants built on the M113A1 hull. This specific vehicle, wich should be the Prototype No.1, wich is the earliest variant of this series. Not only does it lack a couple features such as smoke grenades and has a lot of differences to the newer production variant, but the tower cant be turned all the way around due to runner ring transfer, but likely between 140-189 degrees to the sides.
IN GAME
This could be a neat Event or Premium NM142, maybe even as an tech tree vehicle for that matter and have the latest version NM142F1 as an event/premium vehicle. This would perform a little worse than the later variants and would probably be placed at an lower br. Its mobility is not the greatest, its still the underpowered M113 hull, but it has some pretty decent missiles, with high penetration and the ability for top attack! so i believe it would do great!
