HISTORY
The Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace is one of three companies under the Kongsberg group and is a continuation of Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. Kongsberg makes products for both defense and aerospace, and has over a number of years developed a number of very successful products such as the Naval Strike Missiles, Penguin ASW to mention a few and the market leading protector series. Kongsberg is also the world leading supplier of weapon stations and solutions, featuring multiple families of remote controlled weapon stations and turrets , which countries all over the world have already started integrating on their vehicles and vessels even.
As a result of constant development and new ideas and to get new customers, they regularly have demonstrations where they show potential, which of we have seen many different combinations and mixes, this wagon is one of those. This vehicle was first seen in 2016, and it features an Mowag Piranha 5 IFV with an Kongsberg RT40 turret. This is a vehicle created for the purpose of technology demonstration which KDA - Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and GDELS - General Dynamics European Land Systems has worked together to create and integrate with the weapons, and this vehicle has not been adopted by any nation or tested from what i have seen.
This is the 5th generation of the Mowag Piranha Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and this has been designed by GDELS and ELS - Mowag, with the first prototype vehicle being released in 2008, and for the first time exhibited at the Eurosatory event a couple years later in 2010. The vehicle has since been modified in a large amount of variations and been adopted by a number of nations.
IN GAME
This could be an quite nice vehicle in game for Norway and GDELS/Spain. Its equipped the “middle class” turret, the Kongsberg RT40 with an 30mm cannon that has the ability to punch trough most the armor it faces, even planes as it has lock on lead target indicator, and with the ability to carry an javelin missile, it can even engage heavy armor. and again, with the 40x53 grenade launcher, it can do severe damage to close range targets with 50-65+mm penetration and eventual airburst ammunition. This would be an great vehicle for the higher ranks.
