HISTORY
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace is the world leading supplier of remote stations, and they have been working on these and developing them since around 2001. The Remote Station on this vehicle is the CROWS - “Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station” and is a series of weaponstations used by the United States Army. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace was earlier awarded a huge contract by USA to continue building, developing and delivering this system. The weapon station you can see in this picture, is a version that was designed more or less 10 years ago. This is a variation of the Commonly Remotely Operated Weapon Station “Crows” and the Kongsberg Protector, this was designed by Kongsberg for the M1A2 Abrams back then so the weapon station would not cover the visibility for the wagon commander. The turret has since been used on a number of vehicles trough the years.
This vehicle is by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace being named “Utah Vehicle” but the vehicle itself is an XLT3-5 from AM General and is an light tactical vehicle. Its a vehicle designed to be lightweight and durable, but aslo rugged and versatile, this vehicle was first seen at AUSA in 2019, its hard to find detailed specifications about its eigne.
I is not known exactly when this vehicle firstly was seen but we saw one of these having the Kongsberg Protector Low Profile Crows back at the AUSA event in October 2021, wich then had this specific low profile rsw intregated. But i strongly believe this picture is from October 2024 (Couldn’t see the date due to some issue with the side LinkedIn), where we also saw a simlar configuration just with the M153A4 crows and with an FN MAG intregated as a coaxial weapon. On this however the guided rocketpod is the primary weapon.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has integrated this weapon system onto this vehicle and is to my understanding specifically for this demonstration. The vehicles are/were fully operational at this event and the combination is one of its kind.
From earlier events at AUSA we can see this kind of vehicle has been used by Kongsberg, and we saw that some of them was labeled “XLT3-5” on its side, but in the interview the spokesperson for Kongsberg is saying this is a SRTV-SXV-XL from BC Customs so i’ll have to assume that it is the one. The stats are similar, but there is not too much history to find about the vehicle.
An interesting note
This vehicle can with its system control 3 different weapon stations on 3 different platforms! for example drone vehicles and other trucks or vehicles with weapon stations, it also has situational awareness, to among other stuff avoid friendly fire! this was demonstrated in one of the videos i have linked to.
IN GAME
This as well as the others, would be a unique and interesting vehicle. This has a little less firepower as it doesn’t have any machineguns at all, and fully rely’s on the guided rocket system, but i believe this is powerful enough, especially with 4 rockets to so some damage. The information about its armor penetration is not available but it can penetrate light armored vehicles, and to my understanding it can taget aerial targets as well. This could make up for its downsides.
