M4A3E8: The easy 8 for the maple people to use in the east

Hello, I did say Canada used 2 Easy 8 and if you didn’t see the other suggestion this is one of the two “Easy 8” used by Canada I’m suggesting. This here is the A3 variant which was loaned to the Canadians in the Korean War being their main tank of the conflict.

History:
In 1950 the Korean War started after North Korea invaded the south, not long later the UN condemned that and passed a resolution that would get a number of nations involved including Canada. However, Canada went into with less than up-to-date amour. After WW2 ended Canada would leave the majority of their armour in Europe leaving them with less than ideal things to send to Korea. This would lead to Canada acquiring M4A3(76)W HVSS from the US stationed there, this was done by a mix of good words from American units and the fact Canada had brought the M4A2 version of the 76mm variant for training not long earlier.

The M4A3 is considered the penultimate Sherman that the US used. It uses a welded hull like most Sherman, compared to most Shermans this one’s biggest difference is the fact it uses the Ford GAA V8 engine. One of the best ways to tell it apart from the A2 variant is a lump of little in a rectangle shape sticking out of the sides on the rear deck as these are used to hold the engine covers for maintenance.

When the Korean War broke out, Canada decided they’d send an armoured unit to support the operations in the conflict. This would end up with the first unit being sent being a composite tank squadron that was fielded as half a squadron being Lord Strathcona’s Horse. This unit was originally equipped with Achilles tank destroyers with their 17-pounder cannons. So when the unit arrived in Puson, Korea on May 4th, 1951 they were equipped with the Achilles. After the Canadians landed, the decision was made to switch the Achilles for the M4A3(76)W HVSS from American stots in Korea. This led to Achilles being shipped to Japan where they were shipped to the UK to be given to other allies.

Canada would proceed to purchase 20 of the M4A3E8, with the authority to buy 10 more to replace losses if required. These tanks would receive a number of modifications during their service under Canada, these would include having their radios replaced with No. 19s from the Achilles, having the roof-mounted MG moved from behind to in front of the commander hatch, a spotlight fitted to the turret, they would also receive extra armour over time in the way of extra tracks. The last modification was giving the tank extra ammo, this would happen in a few ways: removing the co-driver seat for 65 rounds, storage on the floor for 35 rounds and wedding racks above the exhaust reflectors for 54 rounds. This would give the tanks a total of 225 rounds or 154 more rounds on top of the 71 it normally carried. Canada would refer to the M4A3(76)W HVSS as M4A3E8.

I’d be the one with all those shells (I forgot to edit my shells after unlocking one).

But it would be useful if WT had other game modes.

If I recall correctly Canada had used them in part as artillery hence the extra ammo

This isn’t even an argument. America had close ties to Canada during WW2, and that’s just an objective fact.

Canada had closer ties to Britain since before and after. 6 year period isn’t really that long compared to the 250-ish years since 1763

Who cares? We’re talking about WW2. Why are you so against America getting Canadian vehicles anyways?

Same reason you’re against them and Germany getting Benelux vehicles.

I think bro might be delusional. You’ve yet to said why you’re against America getting Canadian vehicles.

Not entirely in favor of this one, but I think I could be convinced if it gets a functional spotlight to blind enemies with (although I can’t seem to find any photos of it mounted like TE says). ~1, preferrably as a premium/event in the British tree.

I forgot about the spotlight(was focused on the fact you could bring an unreasonable amount of shells), I’d love a working spotlight as well(I just want working lights all together tho).

Indeed, even if of limited effectiveness at range, I think it would be hilarious to shine one during a CQC fight to force the enemy out of their gunner scope lol

I can say the exact same about you. Like come on man. Do YOU want Canadian vehicles in America or not? I don’t want them in America because the Yanks don’t need them. It’s a British country ruled by a British monarchy with the British king on the money and government.

As a Canadian, I think that Canadian vehicles should always go into the UK unless they are identical to another nation’s vehicles that are already in WT. I’d prefer them to all go into a united Commonwealth tree (one without the UK), but that’s not very probable.

That’s a bit of an over simplification.

That makes absolutely 0 sense. I don’t think the Canadian M4 should be added, but there’s no reason to bar America from getting Candian vehicles.

How about locking away one nation’s vehicles in to different tech trees? A problem that has been a major thorn in many people’s sides of late.
If an American vehicle gets added, it gets added to the American tree and Americans get to insert it in whatever lineups they have. If a Canadian vehicle gets added, so far we’ve already seen 3 different tech trees used. Why do you feel Canadians don’t deserve the same privileges? It’s a problem Gaijin has created, but really every operator nation in the game deserves to expect all their vehicles to be in one tech tree, not split up. And for Canada, the UK makes the most sense if not a new independent tech tree. India being added to UK recently is another problem Gaijin created, but that’s no excuse to tell players they should suffer for it.
