155mm Self Propelled Gun M53, an American Boom Stick

Looking foward to this and M55 getting added to there operative countries in the game (if it happens).

Shame gaijin doesn’t seem to care for ww2-korean era Howitzers

The muzzle brake was removable. Otherwise the T80/M46 are the same caliber length.

Yea, I am aware of the printed info but,
Read somewhere, that a T97 Gun Motor Carriage prototype mounting a T80 variant had a higher velocity and was tested as a possibility of being a tank destroyer, with ability to fire HEAT.

Going by what I have on the 155mm ammunition and gun prototypes through the 50s… That would most likely be the 155mm T180 Gun. Which was a 155mm Gun based on the 155mm T7 from the T30 heavy tank that was modified to be used with the gun mount and auto loader system for the T58 Heavy Tank.

The 155mm M2, T7, T180, and M46(T80) guns are all technically derivatives developed from the 155mm/L40 M1 Gun. The M2 has a slightly larger chamber volume than the M1’s. The T7 and T180 are designed to use Cased ammunition.

There indeed was a HEAT-FS (?T267) and HEP (T152) round developed for the T180 Gun, note the other M1/M2 based guns could also fire the HEP round.

Yea but I think T180 is not much different ballistically from the T7 … its just that it was modified to fit inside the T58 Heavy tank and fire HEAT(non-FS) and HEP/HESH
Also I recall, not sure, A higher velocity gun was considered for T58 but the idea was scrapped as T180 was enough, as it was meant to fire only chemical energy rounds.

We already got the younger brother larger version of this. We need this in game.

Also, did the M53 get exported? It doesnt seem like it

+1 finally, an American spg that’s probably not be spammed across trees

Pretty cool but I’d prefer to see the M40 first

As far as I can find, it was only ever used by the US Army for a short time, and then the USMC for a bit during Vietnam before the guns were changed to the 8in m55 configuration. So I believe the m53 setup would be US only.

Also from what I have found in complete round tables from the period, the 155mm M46 cannon can fire the 155mm howitzer rounds using the normal/standard charge. Like m107 he with VT fuse etc.

Knowing Gaijin this’ll just become the third widespread 4.0 Cold War Era overpressure abuser. Good suggestion but I’m kinda in the middle between +1 or -1, mostly because of how Gaijin has been treating HE and these kind of artillery pieces (seems like their go-to “oh we need to give x nation another vehicle for z update, quick C&P another SPG”).
