Historical Board Decal Competition!

Who are these Aces? Where are they mentioned? Are they the "Ace of the Month" like Saburo Sakai? I wish to find this list.

Sorry! Excellent point!

I'll go amend the original post to add this information now...

Is .xcf an acceptable file format, or does it have to be PSD?

Ok, I've had an answer to this question from the art department.

.xcf is not the preferred file format for submissions. The artist who contacted me believes that as .xcf is a GIMP program file, GIMP can also save in PSD format and so this should hopefully not be a problem. If, however, it is a problem please contact me via PM and we will work out a way ahead.

Hope this helps!

•    The key to a successful submission is to try to capture the feel of the era; judges will be looking for a 1940s styled image; anime or other modern styles are not the aim of this competition.

That's something i like, no stupid anime  :Ps .

First Artwork

German category  “100th Victory”

[attachment=30563:Sensenmann.png]

It isn´t the final version because i have to check the latin translation. My latin is to many years ago and i am not sure if it´s right.

I think i will work a little bit with the theme of the grim reaper to create a new, different one. I don´t know why but i would like to have a decal with this theme on my plane.

I hope you like it.

Excellent work!

But I think they would like to see some historical german 100th kill marking like this:

If i do it like you said than it is just a copy of a historic killmark. I don´t know what´s right or wrong. My pic is just an idee of a decal i would like to see in the future for the planes.

Like that:

Some great ideas so far - thanks very much for all of the hard work!

YippeeKiYay_: awesome idea, but unfortunately you've strayed into my specialist area! The Fleet Air Arm pilot's wings at the bottom of your decal design have a Queen's crown rather than a King's crown; the British armed forces re-adopted Queen's Crown badges in 1952, so for a truly authentic Second World War feel this would have a King's crown. Not sure if that will cause you lots of extra work, but thought I'd mention it just in case!

Anyhow, here's an example of a Second World War Royal Navy pilot's brevet to compare the crown:

All I have is MS Paint. I don't know how to do fancy files or anything. But I got bored and did an idea anyway.

Could I remove this entry and put that one in instead?

If you can find a way to easily change the crown across, that's all it would need. I can then remove your previous post, if you like!

Below is my entry for the Flying Tigers pin-up category. I'd love to see it on the fuselage of my P-40E in game, but chances are my entry will get blown out of the water by whoever posts next. Nevertheless, I'll see if I can tackle the Fleet Air Arm category this weekend.

Also, I tried to attach the .psd file, but the forum uploader says it doesn't accept that file type.

So i finished this for the japanese one, i hope you enjoy it! I hope some of you would like to see this stare down your enemys. I may enter the others at some point in time. (Do i have to attach the photoshop file now or if i get chosen?)

Yes i did draw and colour this, only using basic samurai knowledge and some pictures to look at the sort of things the helmets have from the internet.

Thanks for the latest competition entries guys, great stuff! Only jpegs are required at the moment; lossless files are needed for those selected as winners.

I'm thinking of putting together a submission for the German category, so I was wondering if it'd be acceptable for me to use a Reichsadler in the design. I would, of course, omit the swastika, but would it be ok to use the rest of the bird?

I've seen the Reichsadler used in other games, where they have replaced the swastika with an Iron Cross. As an image it has been used in various forms for centuries, even going as far back as the Romans, and a variant of it is still used by Germany today, I think? Would need a member of the German community to confirm that. So - the eagle itself is not a Nazi symbol as long as the swastika is left out. I can't see any problems with you incorporating it.
