Morvran_ 621 Report post Posted March 22 (edited) I've been taking the HMS London out for a spin recently as I absolutely love its selection of Tertieary weapon payload. But its 8inch guns feel very week to me, I can put salvo after salvo intot a light cruiser and not see much effect, especially compared to the 6inch guns found on ships like the HMS Belfast seem to absolutely shread everything with ease, even heavy cruisers. Considering most/all british heavy cruisers have the same guns/shells (I think) I assume that all ships would feel much the same. Is this just an unfortunate circumstance of game design or is it just me? Edited March 24 by Morvran_

Yep, I know that, but when you nail the ammo storage of a helana with 50 SAP rounds and nothing happens, or you hit the turrets of a heavy cruiser and just get "non-pen". It starts to get a little frustrating. especially when 6 inch SAP rounds will easily do both

TheWarmFridge 34 Report post Posted March 23 iirc the abysmal performance of the 8inch shells comes from when all 8 inch guns were overperforming, so gaijin just did a blanket nerf on them, the british and the italians got nerfed because of it. this is the story i was given about them when i asked around, i dont know how true it is as when this supposed change happened i wasnt as invested in wt as i am nowadays.

Sounds exactly like something Gaijin would do 1

Although in my experience the 8-inch guns are at least better off than the 6-inch guns, thanks to the massive amount of explosive and a lot more pen(around the same level as some 6-inch AP shells). Though is WT, fire rate and volume of shells is unfortunately more valuable, especially when you consider the spread and low fire rate on the London. On average I get 2-3 kills in the london, unless im in a game vs a lot of Boffets, but even then, they can be annoying to kill. In a game last night with the Belfast I ended with 13 kills, because the 6inch shells will easily one shot most destroyers especially the boffets. Against destroyers, yes the faster firing 6-inchers are much better. I was talking more of cruiser vs cruiser situations where the lack of pen on the 6-inch SAP causes issues. Even then, I find the 6 inch SAP on the Belfast more effective than the 8inch SAPs and I think its purely 12x decently accurate shells every 7 seconds vs 8x not that accurate shells every 15 seconds. Any loss in AP potential is made up in just the pure volume of fire and the crew damage that does
